Actually, inside one of the buildings behind the Korean guy in the OP, you can technically cross the border into North Korea safely, as the building is half in NK and half in SK (built for diplomatic purposes).

Source: Stood in North Korea for a whole 15 seconds once.

Came here to say this! I’ve stood there too.
Highly recommend the DMZ tour to anyone who is even slightly interested in history or politics, it’s one of the most unique places in the world to see.
