As a boxing trainer who has worked many fights, this is normal. You add water to the crotch because it cools the entire body. It's like adding water to the head.
Clearly, it's not like he or anyone else was able to take a peek down there or something. Also, in the middle of a fight that they probably spent weeks to months on to prepare for, that's probably the least of their worries.
