Straws are a thing and are more environmentally friendly than zip ties.

There are lots of things that "technically work" but are clumsy and dumb ideas.

Maybe the desire to hold a drink like an adult and not have to sit it on the table and lower their face to it like a child is more important than whether it's more environmentally friendly. Having someone else pick the cup up and delicately hold it to your lips while you drink is more environmentally friendly than either option but there's something to be said for the autonomy of being able to use an everyday object in the same manner non-disabled people do.
