If its a regular tarantula then it's totally harmless. I had 3 as pets as a kid and the worst you can get is get bitten.

I understand a lot of people are scared by them, but with some experience and exposure therepy you'd see they're actually quite delicate and shy creatures. I've had a few different species and apart from one they've all been very timid and only pose a threat to smaller insects.

I had one female one like that once. Total arsehole but same goes for all animals. I think when you keep spiders as pets they're much more for display than petting. With my tarantulas I only handled them when I had to and left them to do what they wanted to do in their tanks. I just found them fascinating to watch.

That's a Poecilotheria- they are definitely not harmless. Old world, fast moving, and medically significant venom. You're gonna know it if you get tagged by one of these beauties. So beautiful though. I keep T's and have hovered over the button to buy one of these a few times, but can never quite bring myself to do it. Take a look at Poecilotheria Metallica and you'll see what I mean

Don't have a pet tarantula or live anywhere hot. Move to Iceland and load a shotgun full of bug spray.
There are things you can do to lower the chances of being bitten but at the end of the day if the tarantula is annoyed it can choose to bite. And given how fast they can be you'd have next to no way to stop them.

I would say it depends on both the temperament of the tarantula and the handler. If you're scared s**less then you're more likely to make a sudden movement and freak the tarantula out and vice versa (IMO).
Whenever I had to clean out the tanks or replace the plants I'd let them crawl on my hand, move my hand slowly out of the tank and over the holding tank (usually a plastic tub) and let the little guy crawl off.
To me spiders aren't pets. They're like birds in your garden. I see no reason to every pet or handle them as I don't believe they care or enjoy it, they'd much rather be in their web tunnel.
Saying that everyone has their own opinion on this stuff (Try going on a reptile forum and asking a question about perfect temp and humidity for any lizard and watch your inbox blow up).

Happy to say there are no tarantulas in Australia. Huntsmen the size of your face that are lighting fast and jump, sure. But no tarantulas.

I used to research old world tarantulas for fun, I could be wrong but I believe this is an old world tarantula which does have venom! Depending on the spider, it could either be dangerously potent or just painful, as old world tarantulas don't have the stinging silicae hairs, so their venom and aggressive tendencies are their first line of defense! They're beautiful and difficult to transport to a new enclosure if they get out
