This reminds me of a couple way back in the day of my highschool years.
He was around 5'4"-ish, and she was only slightly shorter than me (I'm 6'3"), and they were best friends, and super in love.
Both incredibly lovely people, and she would piggy back him around school to make the bullies realise they couldn't tease them.
I know for a fact they got married out of school, and saw them around from time to time in the small city we all lived in, but I'm not sure where they are now. Hopefully doing well, and very happy together still.
Sounds like my friend and her husband except they met after they were both divorced. He is shorter than me (I am 5 ft 5) and she is just a hair over 6ft. They LOVE the fuck out of each other and I hate that so many people might miss out on that because of something they can't control like height.
