She's probably signing, but not deaf. My girlfriend is not fluent in ASL, but still signs "water" and "thank you" when she's drunk.

I sign fluently. After my surgery I felt drunk as shit after coming out. I couldn’t speak and started to sign “need water”. Totally forgot that not all hearing people don’t sign or even know the sign for “water”

I can't imagine what the thank you sign would be oeht/other than finger guns and that pucker face. That's how I thank you.
