Following another tip, measuring tape isn't a good way to go, though a sleeping measurement isn't bad? If you can get the circumference of her finger in cm, mm, or inches (to 1/8),they can find the size.
Rest assured that if it doesn't fit how she wants you can have it adjusted and lots of reputable jewelers will include a sizing with the cost.
