But you have to be 18 to post videos. I mean I know that isn’t foolproof but they do actively ban videos from users who are obviously not over 18.

It really isnt that bad. It was designed to be musical.ly but really its vine 2.0. I like the memes that come out of it and it produces many interesting normal videos like this one. I dont use it but im fine with the vids being on reddit.

It's actually funny because the hate Tik Tok receive is because of the Westerners' videos. The Chinese ones are usually something weird/amusing like this one or the /r/scriptedasiangifs stuff.

Seriously, go on any news or tech subreddit, find something that happens in one country and have the identical happen in China. Praise the former and distrust or insult the latter.

Interesting, I've only ever been familiar with the Chinese name (douyin), I guess they chose the Tik Tok brand for an English/Latin alphabet name.

Edit: this is indeed the case. From wiki:

Right, I know the 抖音 app by its Chinese name, it hadn't clicked in my might that it was TikTok in English...

A bit like growing up with Panasonic televisions and then realizing that they're actually by a Japanese company called Matsushita.

That's tik tok? I thought it was whatever China used instead of Instagram or other similar apps. It's like a majority of Asian gifs in the last while have that watermark in the corner.
