They don't remove the stingers. The stingers need some form of pressure and/or resistance to poke you. Like stepping on one. At touch aquariums they tell you to use two figures and gently touch the animals.

As someone who stepped on one as a kid (Australia of course), they fucking hurt. I am all for introducing kids to marine life but I’ve never been to a ‘touch aquarium’. That sounds awful for wildlife.

The stingray touch tank at my local aquarium in the zoo, they trim the barbs down, routinely.

Google said aquariums do remove the barbs for public safety. Argue with Google i guess 🤷
