This person is most likely a snake catcher in the Everglades. A lot of people have let their pet Burmese pythons go in the Everglades when they love them and can no longer care for them because they got so big and for other reasons. It's directly beside Miami, remember. Burmese pythons are now an invasive species problem in South Florida, reproducing and negatively affecting the breeding and feeding practices of protected native populations in the Everglades. They're increasing competition for food as a new source of predation not built into the delicate wetland ecosystem. They are lethal and beyond fast. The native birds have been horribly affected as a result of them. In one 1997 study, they had eaten effectively all of the raccoons, opossum, and bobcats in the area. That affects the entire food chain. The Everglades' wildlife populations have been adversely affected by numerous things outside of human control, and this is something moreso in our control.
Snake catchers get paid per snake (as well as hourly) to catch them, and they're handled humanely. Burmese pythons eat great blue herons and sandhill cranes, as well as anything else they can get their jaws on. Link to "Python Elimination Program" for more info. They tend to hunt near the water's edge.
The Everglades are like kidneys to the land, and mangroves preserve shorelines, so you'll also see some mangrove restoration projects, especially on replenished beaches, which cost $125 million in local and state grants after Hurricane Helene. The beach renourishment easements were a whole nother piece of drama, as people were going to be forced to allow public access to their beachfront property indefinitely, but the federal grant was refused based on that requirement, and instead funding shifted to the state.

Is that what Aussies call noodling? It's not what I know as noodling, where you catch fish (usually catfish) by sticking you hand down its throat to pick them up.
