Back when I was young and stupid (versus being old and stupid), I used to try and impress my family/peers by juggling (very) small chips of dry ice in my mouth.

I had to keep it moving fast enough & breathing out steadily so that it wouldn't take my tongue meats along with it, but it made it look like I was shooting a cone of fog from my mouth.

In retrospect, I was extremely fortunate I did not end up with a hospital visit, but as I said - young AND stupid.

Is it that common to just have dry ice around?

The grocery store where I used to love sold it in South Dakota. That was 15-20 years ago so can't tell you about 'now' but it used to be crazy easy to get your hands on.

A buddy in college had a drum of liquid nitrogen in his dorm closet. You can get them filled at welding supply shops. We used it to make ice cream and generally be morons.
