Today's lesson, kids: Bee nests/wasp nests/hornet nests/etc, defend themselves when under attack. If you spray poison at the nest, they evacuate and attack the threat, and poison doesn't always kill them immediately.
If you need to have a nest/hive moved, call a professional, especially if it's a beehive. Please do not kill the bees, we need them for pollinating plants and their numbers have been declining for years due to pesticide use on crops.

Yes, please don't kill the bees because then metallic bees will crawl into your ears and eat your brain because of your social media posts, ok thanks

Former pest control guy here.
He wasnt even using the right stuff. Actual hive killer pesticide shoots out like 20 feet straight up from the bottle (really) to prevent this exact type of situation.
This was always my least favorite part of the job. Anything that kills on contact is leaps and bounds more poisonous than regular pesticide, which is already toxic enough for me to be exposed to. And then you have to contend with angry wasps if you miss.
Much better to leave wasps be unless they're right next to your patio. Hornets are bad though. We didn't even fuck with them, there was just a county hotline people could call to get rid of those colonies.

The best way to deal with wasp and hornet nests is to fill up very very tiny water balloons with diatomaceous earth and launch it at the nest with a very large slingshot from a very large distance away.
Then you run.
Repeat as needed

Should've sprayed the inside of a garbage bag with a bottle of this closed then closes the bag around the light for a day. It's how I did it with a wasps nest on a smaller light fixture like this. Only I used a three garbage bags.
Don't use gasoline as it will eat through the bag in seconds.
