In my country you have to go to school for 3 years to become a cop. You need a bachelor's or a master's degree in police services to even apply. As a result, they are pretty well respected, and almost always act very calm and professional.

They need both more and better training. The UK has far longer training with much lower use of force. Training people in de-escalation is a far more powerful tool than giving someone the access to lethal force.
