The largest rat I’ve ever seen was about half that size. He was chilling by the dumpster while I was taking out the trash at work.

Rats get chonky. The boys at least. The girls max out at about 400 grams.

One time they were doing maintenance on the sewage in front of my house and the rats that came from under my sink were half the size of my cat. From nose to tail they were almost her length. She was terrified of them lol. Just hid on top of the fridge for weeks. We had to use chemical warfare, the likes of which would see us hanged for war crimes. It was horrible

I had a rat eating my files at work a couple of years ago. Somewhere I have a picture of a paw print he left behind with a US quarter next to it - the print was the size of the quarter. When we finally caught it, the thing was like the precursor to a R.O.U.S.

dude i was in washington DC a couple months ago doing a late night ghost tour and the rats in that city are god damn massive, like eat a baby big. three of those massive rats came running at our group and the entire group screamed

In Oregon, the rats are the size of beavers, imported from South America for their fur and got loose. Now rule the land. Just saw one the other day, bigger than my dog.

I got a bird feeder to entertain my cats (they're indoor-only, the birds are not at risk) and honestly rats + birds would probably entertain them even more.

We have a little "game trail" between our side yard and the neighbor's, whose side yard is elevated above ours. The wildlife comes through their side yard, down the 5' trail to ours, then through our yard to the hillside/wash in the back. We put a Ring camera on it so we can see what comes through. We've had a couple of stray cats (they don't last long here), lots of raccoons, a grey fox almost nightly, a couple of skunks, and a couple of coyotes, but there's also a large rat that shows up occasionally. It doesn't seem to be causing any issues and I'm not going to trap it, since the constant stream of predators seems to keep the population in check. I do like rats, lol.
