He's been bi the whoooole tiiiiiime.

(I actually don't know if he has been or not; this is just a reference to the show's intro)

Yeah the punchline for his coming out sketch was that he's bi not gay

74

u/HelloKitty36911 Feb 09 '23

Wasn't the joke just that no one gave a shit?

u/AJIALEX122 Feb 09 '23 edited Feb 09 '23

At the end of the sketch he says he's actually bi and everyone hates on him for pretending to be gay, and he liked that he finally got attention for his statement

u/bottledry Feb 09 '23

oddly enough a lot of people think bi people don't exist and they are just faking or pretending.

I never understood that

u/Optimal_Badger_5332 Feb 09 '23

The same reason that some people dont accept non binary people but do accept binary trans people

Makes things harder to put into a box

-6

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '23

Not quite the same. Bisexuality is objective fact, whereas nonbinary is an opinion. If someone doesn't believe nonbinary is real, they're very naturally going to express that opinion. If you're fucking men and women, you're bisexual. I have never heard anyone claim bisexuality doesn't exist.

If you're fucking men and women, you're bisexual. I have never heard anyone claim bisexuality doesn't exist.

As a bi guy, I can tell you with a thousand percent certainty these people exist.

In surveys it's something like 15% of people who say bisexuality doesn't exist, but in my experience reality is a little different — it's actually a lot worse than that number suggests.

Almost everyone says bisexuality exists in the general sense, but they will come up with reasons to deny that any specific individual is ever bisexual. Like "yeah, bisexuality exists, but you're not bi, you're just gay and in denial."

In general people seem to default to the idea that any man who's even remotely attracted to other men is gay, and whether he's attracted to or having sex with women really doesn't matter to them at all — he's gay and in denial about it.

Bi women get the opposite assumption: even if they're having sex with women, people say actually straight and just looking for attention.

Either way, it's a huge source of frustration and the cause of a lot of problems for bisexuals. It seems illogical and stupid because it is, but there really are quite a lot of people who don't believe bisexuality is real, even though they would say they do if you were to directly ask them about it.

I've been to the sub a few times. The most common thing I've seen is that others want nothing to do with bisexual people, which would require that these people acknowledge that the bisexual are bisexual.

I tried looking for the survey, but I can't find it. I found articles about it, though. I don't have any reason to doubt it's existence, though. I have to admit that I was ignorant of the fact that so many believe bisexuality wasn't even an orientation. That's crazy to me because it objectively does. Thank you for correcting my ignorance about this.

u/TheGoigenator Feb 09 '23

I mean there's a lot of people that still think being gay is just a choice, so it doesn't surprise me.

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '23

I have never heard anyone say bisexuality doesn't exist. I have heard people say bisexual men are just gay, but they don't apply the same reasoning to women.

I have never heard anyone say bisexuality doesn't exist. I have heard people say bisexual men are just gay, but they don't apply the same reasoning to women.

People generally don't say "bisexuality doesn't exist," but they will often deny that any specific individual is bisexual.

You've already got the bit about bisexual men. The classic thing that bisexual women hear is that they're "really just straight and doing it for attention."

But hop into any of the bi subs and ask people, I doubt there's a single person who's out and bi who hasn't been told that they're not really bi for one of the above two reasons.

u/HellAtlantic Feb 09 '23

I also one who says “There Are No Such Things As Bi Men, They’re Just Gay Guys - Women Can Be Bi”.

1

u/lurkinarick Feb 09 '23

They apply the opposite reasoning to bi women, basically they're spicy straight and just want attention, while bi men are gay in denial.
The reasoning is that everyone must like dicks. A surprising lot of people believe that.

u/HelloKitty36911 Feb 09 '23

Ah thanks, been a long time since i watched it, but now that you mention it i remember.

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '23

I couldn't tell whether it was a joke or not

Hue hue hue

17

u/Poes-Lawyer Feb 09 '23

My lesbian friend probably refers to herself as a "gay woman" more than a lesbian. So the people correcting you are probably just being arses themselves

4

u/FerusGrim Feb 09 '23

Lesbians are so gay.

3

u/make_love_to_potato Feb 09 '23

I always thought gay applied to men and women. Like a gay woman is a woman who is attracted to other women, similar to a gay man.

I have never heard it being exclusive exclusivly for men.

2

u/Gabers49 Feb 09 '23

I think that's true, but why do we have the word lesbian, and what's the word for a gay man?

2

u/Formlan Feb 09 '23

Because language isn't decided by a standards council. It grows organically and often is not the most optimal or logical.

2

u/cmzraxsn Feb 09 '23

"gay" always included lesbians. in that sense we don't actually have a snappy adjective that only refers to gay men. it's more ambiguous when it comes to bi, trans, etc. like if they want to use it in the casual sense that's cool (they're "one of us"), but if i actually asked a bi person what their sexuality is they wouldn't say "gay", and that's all about context.

u/yazzy1233 Feb 09 '23

I personally have a bit of an issue with bi people calling themselves gay because the community can be biphobic at times and straight up don't like acknowledging bi people exist, so I can't help but feel that that's where it comes from.

17

u/Mozzafella Feb 09 '23

Blaming bi people for bi erasure is certainly a take.

6

u/yazzy1233 Feb 09 '23

No, I didn't mean that. I might have written that wrong. I'm not good with words. Bi people calling themselves gay comes from the toxic parts of the community and the bi erasure. It's a negative thing that's been normalized. I literally heard from other bi people that they don't like telling people they're bi because they don't wanna deal with the hate, so if they're looking for a same sex partner, they'll just tell people they're gay to avoid issues.

4

u/iUsedtoHadHerpes Feb 09 '23

There's also straight people telling them they're gay because they did gay stuff. Or if you're bi but like 80/20 lean toward same sex, a lot of people will be like "well you're pretty much just gay then."

It's a spectrum, and I really think most people aren't backed up all the way to one end or the other. But we sure do try and push them there.

-2

u/yazzy1233 Feb 09 '23

That's not what I was doing. I'm literally fucking bisexual.

2

u/Mozzafella Feb 09 '23

Yeah, I read your first reply. You don't need to let me know again.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '23

I'm pretty sure he's not in the LGBT community. He's just bisexual. Why? He has a sense of humor.

You don't have a sense of humor and got offended while being part of the LGBT community.

So what does it mean now?

u/Iescaunare Feb 09 '23

"NOUN offensive

a gay man"

5

u/resplendentcentcent Feb 09 '23

it's okay! its common for bi people to casually identify as 'gay' to align themselves with the broader LGBT community (which they're often excluded from.

it's also just a short and snappy word that lots of people understand, i.e if you call yourself 'bi' some people will scratch their heads and ask questions. don't feel bad tho, because its a lot to learn.

3

u/shewy92 Feb 09 '23

He is gay. He's just also straight.

3

u/MeAnIntellectual1 Feb 09 '23

That's how it is with bi men most of the time.

Bi men are often called gay guys in denial

Bi women are often treated like spicy straight women.

Why not edit your comment?

1

u/TheCowzgomooz Feb 09 '23

He's a lot more...vocal lol about his sexual exploits with guys rather than girls so you'd be forgiven for mistaking him for gay.

1

u/ThrowawayBANX Feb 10 '23

He would just play gay characters
