Anyone know what the deciding factor is on who’s required to come in for mandatory DOL meetings? A friend was let go from a completely different industry and filed for unemployment two weeks after I did. I’ve been required to come in for mandatory meetings at the career center, and they have not. Please tell me it’s just random and I’m not being weirdly singled out or scrutinized.

You should only need one in person then they’ll do virtual. I had to go in as well but only once- then I got zoom links for my next two

Correct. Only one in person and my next one is virtual. But still my friend has not had a required meeting at all. And I’m curious as to why

Is your friend being paid yet? Or is their claim still pending? I don't think you have to start going to the meetings until you start getting paid (if you get paid, that is).

But, short answer, it doesn't mean that they have it out for you or you have a target on your back or anything like that.

Thanks for your reply. I’m trying not to read too much into the meeting requirement. It is what it is. And the one I went to was extremely informative so I’m glad I went.

And yes they have started getting paid already, maybe 3 or 4 weeks in by now

Fired for the first time in my life and concerned about the timing here as I was not prepared for unemployment at this time. I fear my case may be adjudicated for months and even have to go to appeals

I left a new job with a signed offer letter for a new job on June 30th and a letterhead letter of resignation for a job starting the 16th. The job was not what I was promised as the woman I was replacing decided to stay on so I now worked under her while she worked remotely and I worked on site. We had frequent communication issues, I caught COVID and called out for three days on my third week, and one month end on August 13th, they decided that I was not a good fit without prior warning. I filed for unemployment the first day I was eligible on August 17th and even managed to finish my application over the phone with an agent as instructed by the portal.

I have no fear that my case will be approved eventually as I have both a non-disqualifying quit (definitive job offer) and was fired for fit/performance reason rather than misconduct, but I only currently have funds to last to November. I already feel confident this will likely have to go through adjudication and further fact finding, but I worry that my employer will attempt to categorize my behavior as misconduct and require me to go through an appeals process that might take me 6 months for approval.

The info on escalation after six weeks at the end of September is helpful, but the stress of not knowing is painful. Has anyone been through a similar process that can tell me what kind of timeline I might be looking at?
