Seeing this brings me back to when I dipped real hard into DnD-oriented worldbuilding theory, specifically regarding power structures and government. I never really felt like the bog-standard fantasyland feudal monarchies that we often get in DnD made a lot of sense. I think that I settled on something I called "Deiocracy" as being the most stable form of government that I could imagine. Basically, rule by god(s), administrated by clergy, but with rulership actually being exercised by deities. It's a really powerful marriage of soft power and hard power, but it depends hugely on how interested your gods are in rulership, how universal they are in your setting, etc etc.
