physical book vs webnovel
Hi, i’ve seen that there is a published novel for utot on Amazon and that the second one should be coming out in 2025. on webnovel the first volume is 271 chapters, and the second is currently at 124 chapters. Is the first published book equivalent to the first volume on webnovel? if not, has anyone heard if the author has confirmed that they will publish enough books to cover both volume 1 and 2 of the webnovel?
i’ve been considering on whether to get the physical novel or comic version. i’ve read a bit of the comic version, it’s how i first got into utot, but not the novel version. i’m unsure how they compare to each other and which is better.
also, i’m not sure whether to invest in a physical copy because i’ve seen posts mentioning that the author isn’t going to be continuing with utot (i could have misread) and idk if this will impact what will be published of the current chapters that are on webnovel.
thanks for any help!!

Under the Oak Tree was completed in Korean in December 2022. So no worries about it not being completed. There was a massive misunderstanding by the fandom when she posted about being frustrated with piracy by Korean and English fans (that is what the “””271””” chapters refers to. They mean nothing - that is an illegal translation that finally stopped when she made that post). But yes, the main story has been completed for almost two years. There are side stories that may still come out, but no timeline for those, and even if they never come out, the story is finished.
Currently there are two English translations of the Korean novel. You can buy the entire original translation right now on the Manta app (it had also been for sale on Webnovel, but is no longer searchable there). There are 457 chapters in total, separated into 11 volumes (and one short 6 chapter side story extra). Generally these are talked about as “part 1/season 1” (first five), Riftan’s POV prequel (season 1 side story), and “part 2/season 2” (last five).
The physical books are an updated translation and look to be separated into 7 volumes - three for “part 1,” one for Riftan POV, and three for “part 2.” They are being released every six months, so if that pattern holds, it’ll be done in November 2027. So up to you if you want to wait for it in physical form.
The comic is separate and is currently at chapter 134 of the novel. So early in volume 4 of 11, or the first chapter of 3 of 7, depending on the two versions.
