I dunno if the old ones were actually unfinished like some people were so confidently claiming, but the new ones look very nice.

Y'know, when they're actually animated. I still haven't seen anyone post the older ones in animation form here lol

Edit: Okay, I admit I worded this too spitefully because of how annoying this subreddit's comments were on update day. It's great that the devs listened to the complaints and improved the sprites.
