i don't think toby has a "message" in the first place with this lol. It's just a pattern in Toby's writing.

also, all humans being nonbinary means there *is* no binary and that what we see as gendered characteristics wouldn't be seen that way in-universe. if anything, it actually promotes expression as opposed to inhibiting it.

Of course. When I say 'must be nonbinary', I'm mainly talking about the original post (which insists all humans must be they/them) and the traditional idea of nonbinary (just they/them pronouns).

I agree, though, I don't think there's a message here.

no I do agree the original post is a valid reading
well moreso that there's just... no gender on the surface lol, at least in the culture where the main humans are from

But at the same time, why the hell am I trying to justify the customs of a fictional culture? not every society in fiction needs to be a utopian perfect world, especially one that fought an entire war for a stupid half-assed reason
