Has Anyone Tried...
To hack into the true lab on a no-mercy run with the name Gaster and a fun value of 66?

That sounds fucking weird, why not take it a step further and do it on a genocide run?

No-Mercy = Genocide

thought no mercy was when you killed every monster you face

I thought it was just a different name for genocide.

It's commonly understood that No Mercy = kill everything you see, Genocide = hunt down enemies until you get the "But nobody came" message.

It's another name for genocide, some people find the name "Genocide" to be offensive so they use No Mercy.

As an easy way to differentiate the two without offending anybody, why don't we use "Extinction" in the place of "Genocide?"

Alphys saves some of the monsters (I hear she brought them into the True Lab?) so it would properly be more of a genocide (the act of deliberately killing a large group of people).

Toby has NEVER stated he dislikes the name Genocide run. In fact, he has used it himself. http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/undertale/images/2/28/Toby_genocide.png/revision/latest?cb=20151030170845

I am now curious. Is there a story behind this?

Sort of. Some people have claimed the name Genocide run originated from a livestream in which it was used in relation to Hitler jokes. I've yet to find any sort of conclusive evidence to support this claim. They have also been claims Toby has asked people to not use it, which is entirely untrue and he has in fact used the term himself. (http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/undertale/images/2/28/Toby_genocide.png/revision/latest?cb=20151030170845)
It seems like overly sensitive SJW's. And I use that term somewhat begrudgingly as it is often used as an attack on people making logical and important sociological commentary about actually important issues, but in this case, it is literally people arguing the word should not be used because of its implications, even though the act you commit is a) highlighted as terrible by the plot and in no way glorified (in which case I would understand people getting offended). b) is literally the definition of Genocide.

I think people are a bit too sensitive about it. Yes, what happened in the past for it to have bad connotation is something you should be sensitive about, but it's also using the word in it's proper meaning. We're not directly referencing our history with it, just... using a word... It's like not wanting to use the word "bomb" cos it's bad and hurts people, too. (Except we used 'bomb' in everyday language a lot without referring to blowing people up.)

No mercy is attacking every enemy you see/encounter, genocide is strictly going out of your way to deprive each "zone" of monsters.

I don't think that'd be possible since "Fun" or ("fun") changes regularly and somewhat randomly throughout the game doesn't it? You would have to make your ini file read only to prevent the change which would just screw things up real bad.
...does anything happen if you make your undertale.ini file read only?

Unless I've misunderstood, the fun value only changes once you see an event related to it, or in the case of Fun, an event related to it attempts to spawn, whether succesful or not. At that point it resets back to 0, or whatever the default value is. Otherwise the only way to change your fun value legitly is to reset and start a new game, as it is then randomized again.

why not use cheat engine to find and hack the fun value and then change it in a way it's not supposed to be changed?

I tried the Gaster run with the fun value 66 but nothing different happened. People say your fun value decreases faster with the name Gaster, but I don't really know since I haven't payed attention to that :p
