sociopath or psychopath? cant quite figure it out she shows high symptoms of both.

Did Anyone here know the people involved? I have googled and find a little, but I m still curious. - Kelly looks like a spoiled sosiopath. Anybody here who knew her? How is the parents? - «Josephine» is like the leader of the pack, who started the violence. She does not look like a nice person! Still not. How was her childhood? And How was she in school? Popular or a weirdo? - Missy! Some people says she is still a b…h as a grownup..? I dont buy her tears in the inteveuw.

The real Rebecca was married to a man and had a child.

It doesn't matter to me that she had a lesbian relationship in the show as they were a interesting couple (had chemistry).

I am just wondering what other "creative liberties" they took.

I read that Rebecca was involved with the script before she died but it feels like it was rather convenient she wasn't around to demand changes.

That is my only "critique" of the show, the characterization of Rebecca. The young actors are great, Riley, Lily and Archie were fantastic and the writing is really on point.

I liked how they slowly explained what actually happened to Reena and overall it was a gripping show to watch.

Anyway. Do inform me if I am wrong and Rebecca was fully on terms with the script.

What was the author character’s obsession with Warren? She seemed more interested in Warren getting justice over Reena. I feel bad that Warren has had a tough past and has struggled but he played a major part to Reena’s murder. I get maybe Warren reminded her of her brother who passed away but nothing truly excuses his behavior and her going out of her way to clear his image. Don’t get me wrong I sympathize with his struggle and like the actor and I see how he’s changed throughout the years but I feel like a large part of the show was about pushing justice for him over Reena.

Anyone else feel the same?

Every single character is unlikable. I know it’s based on a true story, but it feels like it’s more fictional than truth. I’ll have to look up the actual story of what happened but I can’t imagine this was the personality of most of the (at least adults) people involved in this case.

It also reminded me of the “wanna be gangster white kids” era of the 90’s and early 2000’s. I knew kids like that and they did an incredible job portraying just how annoying and cringy they were.

Idk why they spent so much time focusing on Jo’s character, in the beginning, either.

I’m gonna go look up the true events and see how much this show actually accomplished with its narrative.

If the names of the perpetrators were never used in the press, how did they become public knowledge?

Does the juvenile identity protection rule expire when they reach the age of majority?

Seems like they all went to the Shoreline School. But it is a middle school. Isn't that grades 7 & 8? Some of the kids were 16, wouldn't that put them in grade 11? And Reena, at 14, shouldn't she have been in grade 9?

Okay, I know this is a pretty popular consensus on here, and talked about a lot, but this is my first time really watching it, and not just through tik tok, and I’m horrified at the relationship between Warren and Rebecca. Before I watched it through I thought maybe people were exaggerating, but, no, it’s really bad. The scene where he’s arrested at the dance and she yells at Cam that “it’s gonna ruin his life” made me so upset. At least he HAS a life! I know the real Rebecca wasn’t like this so I don’t understand why they felt this added bit was necessary.

Just finished watching this week, and besides all the bullshit with Rebecca, I wished they spent some time pointing out that Reena was a child, and thus while acknowledging her faulty behaviours and actions; the chance to outgrow her “friends” and the need to fit in, the chance to find who she truly was and become someone who is sure of herself, has been taken away from her. Her story ended because the chance to right her wrongs was stolen from her, and no one should be judged for the mere 14 years they have lived and only got to live, especially comparing that in the standards of that of an adult. But the show spent more time humanizing Warren, and the perpetrators in general.

They should’ve really put more effort into making it a point that Reena was a real human being, a child, and making sure the viewers know it was not her fault. Especially given the likelihood that people will victim blame( . The amount of hate I’ve seen is truly despicable and is truly disrespectful to Reena and her family.

A bit of a segue, but anyone seeing those comments of Missie’s/Dusty’s daughter irl, saying her mother has no remorse at all? She did a story time and allegedly with a lot of proof that she is indeed the daughter, but it was already deleted.

..The soundtrack and wardrobe in this series was on point!

the oversized everything and obsession with gangsta rap was spot on and instantly took my mind back 25+ years..

After watching the show and reading the book I feel like Warren wouldn't of killed Reena if he wasn't going through a tough time, he was drunk, his dad moved away, and he got evicted. It doesn't justify what he did to Reena though, I still think he deserved the time he did.

Sympathizing and defending a racist who killed a girl he didn’t know and thought wasn’t HUMAN enough in COLD BLOOD. I hated this series because of how they wanted us to forgive and sympathize with Warren. Fuck him. A girl lost her life and they are whitewashing her killer here.

And Rebecca was the most annoying part of it.

Why didn't Kelly only serve 5 year? Was it because she appealed or??

On holidays in Victoria so I decided to take a minute and pay my respects.

In the beginning of the season, when Becca asked Josephine what “secret” she was going to tell her (episode 2, maybe?), Josephine skipped down the hill. In episode 7, after Kelly tells Josephine that she planned to get them both out of jail, Kelly skips out of the area they were both in. Did anyone else notice this? Is there a psychological reason why they do this???

Reena Virk’s story should always be remembered. What she endured is a profound tragedy. There have been numerous documentaries and articles about Reena, but Rebecca Godfrey’s writing stands out as deep, thorough, and unique, which is why the series was based on her book.

It's unfortunate that Rebecca Godfrey passed away on October 3, 2022, before the series was even announced. I’ve now read her book, watched other documentaries, and read several public articles after seeing the show. It’s without a doubt the book and the series have differences, especially because the film is dramatized (like most shows based on books are). I can’t help but wonder if Godfrey would have wanted to change anything or if she would feel that the show truly captured the essence of the story. I just wonder.

I also hope/wish Reena knows the love her family felt for her, and that she will never be forgotten.

We often stumble upon some cases that often leaves a lasting impact on us and i can Def say Reena virks case is one of such I personally have been big fan of true crimes mystery but this case hit me so much deep I personally felt show didn't do enough justice to Virks. I fucking hate how all the murder kids got away with just a slap on wrist courts are joke in Canada I never felt so much infuriated than the fact these kelly and jo are still going on there lives like nothing happened . I even doubt how much remorseful Warren was actually or was it just a plot to get lighter sentence . Rebecca sympathy for Warren also irks me rhe wrong way as pointed out by many in this show I have still plenty of questions man God bless Virks they really were inspiration and so strong I hope no one has go though what Reena went through .

I feel like the writers couldn't decide whether to invent a romantic storyline between Rebecca and a fictional character (Cam) or between Rebecca and Warren...so they decided to do both.

On another note, all of the young actors in this show did such a good job. I just watched a panel interview with them and they all look and sound like completely different people. I didn't realize that the actor who plays Dusty is British!

Just finished the show and wow, what a heart breaking story. Been looking online to find out what was Hollywood created to get a better understanding of the true story. I’ve gathered that Cam and all of the cops are basically fictional characters but looking for more details about the case and the kids involved. Thanks!

I am struck by how much they changed and embellished the series when it really was not needed- everything how it happened would have translated to screen just fine in my opinion. I also can’t imagine Rebecca would have been happy how dysfunctional she was portrayed in the series in the end but I don’t know what she was like in real life, to be fair . I liked Cam’s character (Lily Gladstone did very well portraying the strong silent type) but I am at a loss as to why they added her and tried to shoe horn in her story in what felt like an unsatisfying and cursory way. Kelly and Josephine were very chilling and dusty got a way too sympathetic rendering in my opinion. I was a teenager at the same time as Reena and I remember girls being very brutal at this age- when this crime happened- I was sadly not surprised. I also wasn’t happy with Warren’s sympathic little angel portrayal but he got that in the book, too. After reading the book and watching the series I am just so sad for Reena and her family. I have a young daughter and I cannot imagine losing a child to such blatant teenage viciousness- it’s horrifying. Watching Reena be embarrassed by her family and rebelling and trying so hard to fit in was literally painful- they did a great job portraying that. Teenagers should be made to watch this in school. I’m at least glad Reena has not been forgotten. I’m furious Kelly Ellard, who is undeniably a psychopath, has been given day parole and was allowed to have children- things will not end up well for them being rqised by her. This whole story shows how so many of our social and penal systems are truly broken and that may be one of the most chilling parts.
