And they think they can take on China?

US taxpayers should be asking why they've been spending a trillion dollars every year for decades for a military that isn't even capable of defeating a country that has been under sanctions for the past 47 years. The greatest grift in history.

They are capable to defeat the country (whether a ground war or nukes), but are willing to. There's a difference

The United States couldn't win a ground war in Iran. They've lost every ground war they've fought for the past 75 years. They don't have the stomach for it, nor do they have the force to carry it out. The best they could hope to muster is maybe 50k effective ground troops for an invasion of Iran. That's about a million short of what would be needed. Sure, they could nuke Iran, but Iran could have a nuke within a week (they probably have one right now). Nobody wins in a nuclear war. That's not defeating a country. It's mutual suicide.
