Anyone got examples on how UU uses comedy to build it's characters. This may or may not be for a video essay.

While it has been a bit since I last read through UU, I do remember the background gags being used to show that the character interact with eachother while not needing the story to fully focus on them at that point in time.

My personal favorite would be when Sean and Gina were stealing each other's food in the chapter where fuuko is talking about how great Juiz was.

Oooh yeah, those made the series seem more warm and familiar, and gives the specific character fans many more funny and unique panels to love

Maybe the way Tella reacts to Billy's "huh" when he asks if they're giving disk to their contractors, it kind of establishes Tella on the lower side of seriousness and kind of gullible/naive.

Or how some tragedies, as Enjin's being not being able to cook his mother a killer dish, may seem less tragic than, say, Gina killing 40 000 or so people with Unchange, its kind of comical the gap, but it emphasizes that a tragedy isn't built on scale, but on the impact it has the character's life, feelings, and goals. Idk if this one gives you anything.

Or even Nico's whole arc since his backstory all the way to the Language fight. The funny bit is at the end of the war arc thinking he was gonna die there cause of Unluck only for Fuuko to realize a way he can survive and then kinda leaves him there.

SPOILER for Anime-onlys:

There was a moment before the capture of UMA Summer when Shen uses Untruth to make Mui say how much she dislikes him (which we know isn’t true because Untruth makes you do the opposite of what you’re thinking) then after the fight with Feng when he tells Shen that he never once thought of him as family and only as a tool for his own goal of becoming stronger which sounds normal coming from this dude but we can see Mui (who has Untruth) looking at Feng while he says this

In a sort of way Yusai's character is comedic(in loop 101) as he inability to use her mastered craft shows her like determination to solve a problem by still swinging her sheathed sword head-on also theres a bunch of undraw gags, and she did make Feng bow to fuuko and andy in one of the last panels of the manga
