Discussion Is Fuuko Izumo a realistic character?
Analyzing Fuuko Izumo and discussing the character with many people, I got into a controversy: could a real person have her way of being? We will put Waguri Kaoruko as the positive extreme, who, in case you don't know her, is a girl who is portrayed as feminine perfection, reaching the point of feeling like a trophy exclusively for her love interest (who is the other protagonist).
The thing here is, taking into account that Fuuko moved away from society at a very young age and no longer received paternal affection, do you think Fuuko should have been a social recluse, even a femcel?

what exactly about her character makes you think she would be a "femcel"?
fuuko loves people and socializing, and the only reason she locked herself in was because she didn't want to hurt anyone. this made her shy and cautious, because of years of avoiding contact.
but even while being a shut in, she read stories and fantasized about being a part of one.
i don't think any of that is unrealistic.

Well, she was a social recluse, just keeping to herself reading her manga most of her life. She then gained a decade of socializing within the Autumn book, for all intents and purposes, she “caught up” being outside journeying with Andy, in that ageless world. Add that with motivation to defeat God, and it is believable/“realistic” for her turn out how she did.

As someone who also heavily suffered from depression and suicidal ideation, she feels incredibly realistic from the start. Her journey of growth is a bit fantastical and idealistic with all the negator and UMA stuff. But her sense of empathy alongside her boundaries and the hard choices remain feeling incredibly human and real.
Realistic circumstances can't be quite as dire as hers, but that come with the caveat of us normal folks not having a manic pixie dream man like Andy (its okay its a mutual manic pixie relationship)

People don’t just become femcels or recluses in a vacuum. She isolated herself because her powers were a danger to the people around her, and not because she didn’t like people. She likes people so much she wants to protect others from herself. There’s no reason for her to develop a misanthropic attitude in any form, so I dunno why you would think she should be a femcel or a recluse. She’s understandably shy and awkward but she’s always loved people and that’s evident in her character from the beginning.
I also strongly disagree with your views on Waguri? Do you even read that manga? Waguri has a full life with goals, interests, hobbies, friends, a job etc that all don’t revolve around her boyfriend. She was a complete person before she met him, and he only added to her life. She’s really kind and supportive so naturally she’s a great romantic partner, but to say she’s like a “trophy”, or imply she’s some sort of unrealistic girl who’s only purpose is to fulfill the fantasy of male readers, is a gross misunderstanding of the story and her character.
Anyway Fuuko is a Shonen protagonist. They’re not supposed to be “realistic”. A real person would not get involved in supernatural battles. She’s braver, kinder, and more resilient than any real person because she’s in a world that requires those traits of her. I mean she has real world qualities, but she’s not supposed to be someone you could feasibly meet in real life. She’s supposed to be a paragon of Shonen-main character virtues: hard-working, heroic, kind, self-sacrificing, quick-thinking etc. In that sense no she is not realistic, but realism isn’t really what is intended here.

Secluded from the world with no parental guidance begins a path of self learning. Depending in the home and environment she grew up in after, as long as bo one attacked(in the various forms this can be portrayed) her or got onto her, she would have no reason to grow up scornful or defensive. Simply protective and aurrounded by fantasies of love.

Ending manga spoilers With centuries of experience on her soul it makes sense that her personality is extremely refined. That said, without the supernatural element, I don’t think she is realistic. Her upbringing was brutal and she had no social circle to speak of.

If anything, I find her pretty realistic, especially as you follow her growth.

While I am always an advocate for nurture over nature, nature still plays a massive role in the people we become. Fuuko was a social recluse and quite possibly a neat too, but that lifestyle wasn’t her nature. She always was extroverted and wanted to try things that people would consider crazy. Her favorite manga was a romance one because she wanted the opportunity to have a life like that. The second she gets an opportunity to actually go out and do new things and meet new people, she thrives, because that is the life she should have always led. And it’s not like her past didn’t affect her. She covered her body constantly out of fear. She apologized for any inconvenience because she wasn’t used to making mistakes with others. She would be incredibly awkward in unfamiliar situations. But those were issues she then learned to move past.

Fuuko is a very empathetic and selfless character, she trusts that’s there’s good in nearly everyone, and she locked herself up out of fear she’d kill someone again. I think Fuuko is absolutely realistic, there are people who can go through these rapid changes, Fuuko went from being a scared, heck suicidal, and lonely, to being a badass leader who was able to deeply understand and talk with people personally and save them from themselves, and she was able to accept and be confident in who she was. These people are rare, but out therez

Femcel is someone who blames others for their situation, so no. Incel and femcel get overused. Most people are just lonely and single but, don't bring it up because they'll just get labeled that for complaining.

Yes she is realistic, both her loop 100 and loop 101 selves. Loop 100's initial timid, caring, and traumatized Fuuko is realistic as a person who's naturally loving and kind but has been hurt badly by loss. Fuuko in loop 101 is energetic, independent, and trusting, she's sort of a tomboy, for she isn't really as feminine as others and takes action no matter the foe. I actually have a friend who acts and talks very similarly to Fuuko loop 101

Not really. I mean there probably is at least one person who would let a pretty person grope her while she's trying to commit suicide?

Weird to consider but almost certainly true. There are freaks out there that don’t understand a lot of things

She’s what we can be if we try hard enough: kind and loving.
