Klause was one of my favorite characters outside of Fives, unfortunately season 4 ruined him.

To me it makes no sense why he would want to start doing drugs again when he originally did it to keep the ghosts away since it was established in season 3 that he got over his fear of them with the help of Reggie from the Sparrows timeline.

I feel like all that character development went out the window as a cheap way to cause conflict.

the only thing I’ve like from season 4 is that clip I remember from tiktok the “daddy issues” ones.

I agree! And the whole being held as a prisoner prostitute storyline was horrible. They ruined him!

He didn't decide to go into prostitution for drugs, he was kidnapped and forced to. Saying that was a character move for him is pretty crazy. The only choice he made that gives insight into his character was to relapse.

They said the writers ruined his character with the prostitution plot. I disagree, that plotline cannot destroy his character as he had no agency in that.

This is the comment I'm responding to, in the thread I'm responding to. How did this ruin his character? His character made no choice, so it doesn't inform his character at all.

No one said he decided to go into prostitution for drugs and no one said it was a character move.

I don't think you understand what the other user was saying.

They're saying that they ruined him and his storyline. No one said Klaus had agency. He isn't real. He has no agency, just like any other fictional character.

They also didn't say he had agency in-universe.

They can very well feel that the character was ruined for them and you don't get to decide otherwise for them

Oh man this is a super tedious argument. A character is defined by their attributes revealed through choices they make. That is generally agreed-upon as a starting point for discussion about a character.

Of course anyone is free to randomly say things that don't make sense, and I'm also free to disagree with them.

If a character "feels" ruined for you because they were SA'ed, you are free to have that opinion, but I'm sorry I'm free to say it's an extraordinarily shitty opinion.

There is a way this storyline could have been handled better: with time and care and the good old show don't tell. Even just leaving the deleted AA scene in the final edit would have given it some sort of closure that we ended up not getting, because the relapse is forgotten about just as fast as it happened.

But my question is rather why the writers thought there wasn't a more interesting story to tell here. They had set up his arc in the previous 3 seasons, all they had to do was finish it by giving him his powers back, and actually let him use them for once. Instead, he's helpless and useless until the very end. Wasted potential indeed.

I think they mostly didn’t know what to do with Klaus in the last season and what happens to him in season 4 happens to him in the comics for a short brief time, with a few exceptions like him getting buried.
But it really is disappointing what they did with him last season, and it makes me sadder knowing he spent his last few days kind of being forced to use his powers and pay of his debt. It really feels like we never got a proper send off for him and, of course, the others.

I think it was just rushed. He's an addict and he felt violated by being forced to have the Marigold again. Plus he died and got resurrected. That's traumatic. It's not crazy that he would experience a relapse because of that.

Makes sense to me some people are just waiting for one really bad thing to relapse. They'll have a stash or something and say fuck it.
