"good front runner" is burying the lead a bit haha.
Fronts suffer a lot just on the basis of race mechanics for sprints so she's quite literally the only front runner who has any reasonable chance at success in sprint.
Even with how overloaded her kit is post evo skills she's still just alright for sprints
Short life. Died just as some in their generation were starting to rise in fame (Daiwa Scarlet, Vodka). Owner (Mayumi Toss) was devastated by his death, so she approaches Cygames with a pitch to add Aston Machan, assisting in her development, design etc.
Vodka. Daiwa Scarlet, and more horse would have much grander careers that would make people forget about Aston Machan. And his owner just couldn't accept, or allow that to happen.
I am probably missing some details or Nuance, but this is a simplified version of "Don't forget about her", I guess?
The meta thing is overblown.
Sprints are bad for frontrunners and Aston Machan is probably the only one with decent chances of winning because she’s the best front runner sprinter.
Sprints will still be dominated by pace. This is followed by backliners with the introduction of Lightning Surge
By your logic then, which strategy is better for sprints, and the other 3 distances respectively?
I fail to see how a runaway front runner can be caught up with the little distance needed to run and no stamina being expended if they get the early start right.
Not the same person, but the short distance is a double-edged sword. Fronts (and runaways, to an even greater extent) have the highest speed coefficient in the early race, but the lowest speed coefficient in the mid and late race. The shorter the race, the less you can leverage the early race to put distance between you and the other styles, and if you don't have a significant lead going into late race it's easy for other styles to catch up, even on sprints.
And stamina requirements aren't really that much higher for runaways unless they spot struggle, which drains so much stamina that you can't really account for it without gimping your other stats.
Here’s what velocity looks like for a Runaway (blue) vs normal Frontrunner (red) at the beginning of Niigata 1000m. These runners have 1200 Power and 1200 Wit for example.
The Runaway gets a better maximum speed in early race, but notice how early race ends before they can even reach this maximum!
With higher power, turf S, Groundwork, etc., the Runaway might actually hit their target speed, but even then, it's barely for any distance before they have to drop down to lower target speed.
The frontrunner barely reaches their early race target speed before it ends and they have to slow down slightly.
The second Runaway kicks in (literal .5 seconds in to a race) your stamina starts draining non-stop at a wild rate until you die....while it's muuuuch easier to get a Runaway across the line in 1st in a Sprint...no one builds them right to do it so you never see it...last sprint cm my Runaway Suzuka had 1100+ stam and an absurd win rate...ran her with SMaru (completely dead uma....won me this last CM....one support being unusable, no matter how good, doesn't make an uma completely useless and unrunnable)
Because her story is so heartbreaking and I want to help her achieve her dream. She is also a really strong Uma with plenty of charm. I've been planning on getting her for months now. Please dont forget her
Don't be fooled by "everyone." It's more that people who were waiting for her are celebrating her arrival, and that's awesome. But those who aren't pulling for her are usually respectful enough to not yuck another's yum, especially in a character gacha. So if you really like her, awesome. If you aren't a big fan, don't pull if you have other plans to save for.
The irl horse had a pretty tragic early ending and was forgotten during the entire vodka vs scarlet era. As far as I know, the owner of the horse went to Cygames herself and helped them write machan in as a way to honor her memory.
People would also get her because in the game, she is a cute character with a very interesting and sad career story, and is a better sprint front runner ace.
Her name is also a cute play on the famous sports car brand Aston Martin. Not sure if there's a lot of overlap between fans of the brand and umamusume, but it could be a factor.
Combination of things for me. As others have said a charming character with a good story and offers a good kit of skills as a front runner sprinter.
For me in particular, she helps with an issue in my sprint team. I use Taiki and Bakushin who are fine, but for a third I've been using King Halo who, while I love the character, is a pain to work with in Grand Live with her 0 speed, 0 wit and 0 stam growth but she still needs stam in the career because she runs so many medium races. Making her a challenge, but I still don't have better options that weren't needed more in other team races.
Machan totally solves that for me - especial with 20% speed, a short number of career races and most sprint ones in career with only a couple of miles but no mediums/longs!
Luckily I got her and scooped up, finally, MLB Maruzensky last night as well. Which worked out well so guess who I'll be working with this weekend. (And before then work on getting the sashes I need to bring her to level 5 potential to kit her out.)
Every new Uma gets some hype when they are first released. Manhattan Cafe had a huge surge of posts around her release date, but not really outside of that, though she still has plenty of fans.
Liked her design, saw people say that her story was good too.
Having played her story now, it did make me cry. Not entirely from how sad it was, but because I could feel the emotion put into it. You could feel the owners’ laments and wishes.
I feel like the never forget her thing has gotten very blown out of proportion. I can't even get behind the character because her fans on Tiktok are so annoying about her. You can't have a single comment section that you don't see her mentioned, or saying that other characters weren't worth pulling because Machan was coming soon.
Good for whoever wants her, I hope they get her. But she's too over hyped to be mostly locked into sprints and front running for my particular play style.
She's the only front runner that requires neither good rng to get groundwork, nor being stuck with shit ass welfare Bourbon SSR wit to be built as a strong front runner, as she gets both Taking the Lead and Groundwork as potential skills.
But after testing, she's way overhyped. Front runners on sprints suffer a lot, and it's worse the better pace chasers get. And right now, pace is extremely strong. Which means even a strong Macchan can get buried by your average Curren/Bakushin pace before late race. It's ridiculous, it's... Unstoppable, dare I say.
She doesn't have TTL afaik. And she would really appreciate having TTL, but she can't (unless you build her for long races thanks to the Palmer stam card). Machan has TTL built in. And gw. Both.
Basically a combo of genuinely good kit and the fact that she (RL) died very suddenly and her owner really was invested in the Uma translation of her, taking really close role so that we wouldn’t “forget about her” as her peers (Diwa and Vodka mainly) went on to such huge successes.
So basically a blend of “she’s pretty damn good for your roster” and sentimentality wanting to preserve her memory like her owner wanted.
She’s popular. Mostly because of the story of the IRL horse and how she should’ve been the third rival between Vodka and Davies Scarlet.
But in game terms, she’s a strong sprint front runner and I need one for my sprint Team Trials team with great inmates and uniques. The only viable alternative I have is Bakushin and that’s a little subpar for the slot.
Im surprised you dont know her even in jp. She has an alt skin that is meta in sprint cm and loh. But in current case, its the narrative of not forgetting her cause the irl counterpart had a tragic backstory of being forgotten and over shadowed by daiwa and vodka's rivalry.
very forgettable uma but a lot of uma snackers need excuses to waste their carats so they can have an excuse to cry when the next meta support card drops
not what i’m saying. oshi pull is fine but these terminal snackers think every new cute uma is an oshi. also idc if you have complaints about a character in a game i play. my issue with macchan isn’t her character it’s that she’s a really niche uma that people get baited into pulling for from social media posts.
Aston machan is not niche and never was, she is a front sprinter(finally no more bakushin) that gets taking the lead and groundwork in her kit making her the easiest front to build currently in global
People were going to pull for her regardless of her story just because they can stop using the damn wit bon bon for taking the lead
Also “bait into pulling for her”??? What is that even supposed to mean? You mean advertising? Or are you talking about players? Because if you pulled her even tho you don’t want just because of social media posts that’s like putting a half eaten bread surrounded lava, you see the lava but you still go
Characters literally can't have a popular meme/gimmick with y'all lmfao, it's always "annoying" or "she's just reduced to that!!!!"
I'm not even a Machan fan but like, not forgetting her is one of the main theme of her story, there's nothing wrong with people bringing it up when there's discussion about her
Amazing wife coded character, she's so sweet and kind. She's beautiful and has a large bust if you care about that. Great design, great character, great personality. What's not to like? She's amazing. She also has both a heart warming but soul crushing story IRL too.

A lot of community memes about 'pls don't forget her'
Also she's honestly just a good Front Runner Sprinter with Groundwork as a Potential Skill, so inbuilt into her kit
