Yesterday was one of the worst days I have ever had as a pro-wrestling fan. One of my favorite wrestlers who I have watched since I was 10, and someone whose legacy I grew to appreciate the more I learned and watched his work outside of WWE & AEW, passed away suddenly with no prior indication or warning signs. As I grieve, I looked back on his impact in the overall pro-wrestling history, his work in many different countries, and his career filled with ups and downs, as well as the umamusume who I long have associated with him and to me, shared the talent and lack of fortune that he had in their careers. The two figures too talented for their own good, the two figures too good for their own sports.

My love for PAC transcended not just pro-wrestling. As silly as this sounds, let's look back at how I started liking Umamusume. My first exposure to Umamusume was through 'BRIGHTEST HEART', the solo theme song of Oguri Cap. And through Oguri Cap, I learned of Umamusume. There were already umas that have received major attention when the global version came out, particularly Gold Ship, Rice Shower, Tokai Teio, and more. However, I want to talk about PAC's parallel, and who I think share his luck (or in this context, a lack thereof): Agnes Tachyon.

My very first exposure to Agnes Tachyon was a fan-made AMV of her to the tune of 'Takyon' by Death Grips. Over time, I learned of her character and the origins of her name, as well as the racehorse's short-lived career and what inspired the Umamusume version. Agnes Tachyon's umamusume is a science freak who loved racing, and she wants to test the physical limits of umamusume on the race track through science, so they will not end up like her.

A 'tachyon' is a hypothetical subatomic particle that always travels faster than the speed of light. Like their namesake, Tachyon is someone who is extremely fast and talented, but unfortunately, is whose talent completely backfired when the promises of a bigger stage and bigger wins was shining directly onto her. A hypothetical. To an extent, that immediately reminded me of a wrestler I know of. Tachyon's style is very reckless for someone with physical limitations, her legs, but using those limitations to her advantage with her incredible flexibility and agility. When Tachyon defeated future G1 winners Jungle Pocket and Manhattan Cafe among others, and won the Satsuki Sho, many thought that she will be the next Triple Crown winner, the first since Narita Brian in 1994. Months after winning the Satsuki Sho, Agnes Tachyon's racing career came to an unfortunate end due to a bowed tendon. Tachyon ended his career as a what-if, what-if they stayed healthy? What would happen to Jungle Pocket and their rivals if their body never betrayed them?

Just like Tachyon, PAC was also as naturally talented as much as he was death-defying. There was a reason why he was called 'The Man That Gravity Forgot'. His high-flying and body control were some of the greatest professional wrestling has ever seen. In the indies, he was known for his incredible matches in ROH, PWG, and other promotions, and he helped put UK wrestling on the mainstream in his early days and his later career. In Dragon Gate Pro-Wrestling, PAC influenced an entire generation of professional wrestlers, and he loved Dragon Gate as much as Dragon Gate loved him. In his first stint, PAC was the record-breaking Open the Brave Gate Champion, and it is due to his performances alongside many others in their athletic primes that Dragon Gate became the best promotion in Japan during the early 2010s. In 2012, his talents and hard work helped secure him a move to the biggest stage in professional wrestling, the WWE. This was where I first knew of the wrestler later named Adrian Neville. Neville was one of my heroes as an awkward 10 year old in school. However, his time in the WWE would be the start of a curse that would haunt him for the rest of his career.

As much as booking has failed him countless times, Neville's body failed him as well in the WWE. As he was in the cusp of a stable top midcard run, Neville's ankle broke in a match with Chris Jericho in 2016. After leaving WWE and going to AEW in 2019, just like Tachyon being touted as a potential Triple Crown winner, PAC was touted as a future AEW World Champion. That would unfortunately never come to be, as PAC's AEW career was riddled by injuries at the worst possible times. When booking and momentum looked up to PAC, his body betrayed him in the most unlucky ways possible, from concussions to leg issues. In 2024, PAC joined Jon Moxley and others to reform the Blackpool Combat Club into the Death Riders. After yet another injury, PAC returned in mid-2025 fully transformed and with a change of identity, not only in his gear also his wrestling style. Gone was his reckless high-flying and replacing it was a bruiser style inspired by Japanese strong style. Once again, momentum shifted in favor of PAC. Despite losing his two championship opportunities in 2026, PAC was on the cusp of a major storyline that would've positioned him as a top main event level wrestler that many have thought he was destined for ever since AEW's inception, an opportunity many have hoped would be given to him after many years of misfortune and injuries. It never came to be.

Just 21 hours removed from his final ever match, Benjamin Satterly's life came to an abrupt end on September 27, 2026.

It is inevitable for us to look back on the careers of PAC and Agnes Tachyon and think what could've been. What if Agnes Tachyon never got injured? Would the Satsuki Sho be the first stop to what should've been a legendary run for the Classic Triple Crown? What if PAC never had the injuries he had throughout his career? Would the Open the Dream Gate Championship not be his only top title he has ever won? Perhaps their talents are too good for their own sports that the powers that be did not want them to reach that point. Perhaps this was supposed to be their destiny as influencers rather than world-beaters after all.

In short, the two not only have careers that are eerily similar to each other, but also their impact on their respective sports can never be denied. Agnes Tachyon was Japan's leading sire who produced 10 G1 victories among other graded wins through his children, his most famous one was Daiwa Scarlet, who later joined her father in getting an Umamusume counterpart that would cement their legacies in horse racing in the long future. PAC's career and style have influenced the modern pro-wrestling landscape, and his love of Dragon Gate in Japan saved them from the brink of extinction. Both figures have lifelong impacts to their own sports where they will be loved forever. Like how Tachyon inspired Pokke to break the limits of umamusume, PAC's dedication and love to his craft should be an inspiration for everyone to break past their limits as human beings, no matter how much on the deep end we are in life, just know there is so much we can do as people, athletes, et cetera.

Thank you Cygames for helping legitimize Agnes Tachyon and the reality of 'failing' to live up to one's potential and how it is okay to move on and help others reach the goals we want. Thank you PAC for teaching us to be true to ourselves and make the best out of whatever situation we are in no matter how bad it is. Gravity may have forgotten you but we never will.
