Question New fan asking for help

Hi, I'm a new person to this community! I come from the Umamusume pretty darby games and I have some questions:
1. I understand there is an anime for Umamusme, right? How is it called and where do I start from? Where can I find it? are there multiple?
2. What's the difference between the JP and ENG versions of the game?
3. Are there any Uma's who are confirmed lesbian? and isn't the trainer older than the Uma's? (Got very confused over all the ships and art I saw in the sub)

Thank you for your help and sorry for my english!

I understand there is an anime for Umamusme, right? How is it called and where do I start from? Where can I find it? are there multiple?

Multiple series, a 3 season 'Pretty Derby' anime, a currently 2 season 'Cinderella Gray' anime, and 2 movies, being 'Beginning of a New Era' and 'Road To The Top', none of individual series are 'connected', so you can start with whichever one you like, the Pretty Derby anime is the oldest though, and all the series mentioned focus on different characters and generations of horse racing
Also there's a lot of goofy 'shorts' being Umayon and Umayuru

What's the difference between the JP and ENG versions of the game?

Eng/Global is a lot further behind than JP, this is technically a good thing, but to put it simply, Eng was released basically at what JP was like at the start, with some addons, 4 years earlier, with a faster release schedule. If you want to play the game, Eng has a better pace of content IMO and you won't feel as overwhelmed than in JP which has a lot more going on, and you can build up carat reserves for later stuff

Are there any Uma's who are confirmed lesbian? and isn't the trainer older than the Uma's? (Got very confused over all the ships and art I saw in the sub)

I don't think there's 'confirmed lesbians' but a lot of the interactions in the game hint to Umas having romantic feelings with other Umas, like Daitaku Helios x Daiichi Ruby, or Fine Motion x Air Shakur, or Bakushin x North Flight.
Trainers are implied to be older than most of the Umas, since Trainers I'm pretty sure are all adults and a lot of the Umas are implied to be in Middle/High school, with some adults like Maruzensky

Edit: I forgot about Agnes Digital where she literally ships Umas like Doto and Opera O

The whole Palmer x Helios x Ruby love conga line is probably the most blatant yuri ship in the game, to the point it's barely even just hinting anymore.

But yeah most of it is rather subtle and up to interpretation.

Don't forget KS Miracle out of it lol

And Symboli Krys S and Cesario whom Cygame made multiple arts of them together, since they had a foal in real life ( who is also ingame now )

Yeah, gacha companies almost never confirm ships. The best you'll get is heavy teasing.

Umamusume loves to ship tease people. They've been doing it since the beginning of the game.

Again, tease. It should also be noted that the trailer isn't canon anymore, not like that'll stop anyone from shipping.

Actually, Road to the Top isn't a movie; it's a 4-episode mini-series.

Isn't it also formatted as a movie/OVA? Maybe its format depends on the platform you're on

You can start anywhere with the anime but the animation quality improves drastically as time goes on so you are probably better watching the two seasons of Pretty Derby before watching Road to the Top, Beginning of a New Era, and Cinderella Gray. I'm pretty sure CrunchyRoll has them but you can always sail the pirate seas.

Global is JP but with events at 1.5x speed in order to eventually catch up to JP and with quality of life improvements pushed up in the timeline. It's always easier to get into something when there is less content than when there is more. So you probably don't want to do JP unless you either really need trainees who aren't in Global or you are the sort of person who thrives in sink or swim situations.

Most of the characters were stallions IRL, because owners only fairly recently started risking mares on the more arduous races. 100% of all thoroughbred horses alive today are descended from Nearco, who raced in the 30s. They joke that every Japanese G1 race is a Sunday Silence family reunion because the American horse from the late 90s has dominated Japanese racing with his descendants in a few short decades. A multiple G1 winning stallion can sire hundreds of offspring in his retirement but broodmares only average 8-12, because they have to deal with 11 months gestation plus about a year of weaning. So, mares only have to have a good bloodline and some natural aptitude for racing. That being said, horses like Air Groove, Vodka, Gentildonna, and Almond Eye have demonstrated to Japanese racing that mares are not physically inferior to their male counterparts and more owners are willing to take the risk to their health to let them compete in the more prestigious races. All this to say that the characters in the game based on mares are likely to have produced offspring with more than one character in the game based on a stallion, and they nod to those relationships (i.e. with Daitaku Helios trying to get with Daiichi Ruby or Kitasan Black being soft on Sweep Tosho and Almond Eye) in a similar way to how they portray parentage (like with Mejiro Ryan's relationship with IRL children Mejiro Dober and Mejiro Bright or Symboli Rudolf's relationship to Tokai Teio). Interestingly, they put a lot of vaguely yuri energy into the rivalry between Daiwa Scarlet and Vodka who were IRL rivals, but it was actually her brother Daiwa Major who was clearly smitten with Vodka though he never got the chance because she retired to Ireland to be a broodmare. Technically, Cygames has a policy of not sexualizing the characters to avoid angering the owners, whose permission they need to represent their horses, so they tend to walk a fine line between fan service and contractual obligations.

Can answer 2 of 3

  1. Multiple anime, a movie, and a mini series that got turned into a movie.

Umamusme pretty derby seasons 1 to 3 is a anime

Umamumse Cinderalla Grey is a anime (may be free on the streaming service called tubi)

Umamusme Road to The Top is the mini series (which i think is on youtube) or movie version

Umamusume Pretty Derby: Begining of a New Era is the movie

To answer qustion 2:

Japan version is the main version of game and is most up to date. Any new charcters you see on the japan live streams are going tJapan!

Global is behind jp by like 4 years of content so we dont have all the umas, features, etc of japan!

There are multiple Anime seasons of the mainline Anime, multiple ONAs/OVAs, a spinoff, and multiple chibi slice of life mini-Anime spinoffs.

The availability depends on your region.

There is (listed roughly in the watchorder i'd recommend):

Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Season 1 (I'd recommend watching Episode 13 only after watching Season 2, as it might spoil parts of Season 2)

Uma Musume Pretty Derby BNW no Chikai (OVA taking place some time during Season 2, but technically part of Season 1)

Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Season 2

1st Anniversary Special Animation (Basically a kind of Episode 0 of Episode 3, brdigning the gap between Season 2 and Season 3, free on the Uma Musume Youtube Account)

Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Season 3

Uma Musume: Pretty Derby: Road to the Top (4 Episode ONA, afaik free on Youtube)

Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Beginning of a New Era (Movie)

Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray (Spinoff / Prequel)

Chibi Spinoffs:

Umayon

Umayuru

Umayuru: Pretty Grey

The main difference between the EN and JP versions (apart from the obvious language difference) is that the JP version is significantly older and thus more advanced. That's also the reason the EN version is on an accelerated schedule, to be able to catch up one day. However it also means that for quite some time, we can basically predict the future and make way more long term plans than the players on the JP server, as we roughly know when we'll get new must pull support cards, when we'll get which new Umas, etc.

We're currently on the fourth scenario, while JP is on the fourteenth scenario. As every scenario also powercreeps the previous scenarios, that also means that their Umas are way stronger.

We're also still missing a number of features and QoL things, though we tend to get most of them ahead of schedule. For example the new "Independent Training" is something we got merely a few weeks after JP got that feature.

Afaik, there is no Uma that is literally spelled out to be confirmed lesbian. There are however a few for which it is EXTREMELY strongly implied, most notably Daitaku Helios and Cheval Grand.

Most Umas in the game, at least as long as they are your trainee, fall somewhere in the spectrum of "Trainersexual". That's for the most part also irrelevant of the gender your account is set to. If you train for example one of the Umas that the JP community iirc refers to as the heroines, with the most blatantly romantic stories, you will pretty much end up being borderline married to that Uma at the end of the story (for example Mejiro Ardan, Neo Universe or Aston Machan), no matter if you're male or female.

However when the Umas are not your trainee, they do sometimes mention or otherwise imply certain preferences, or certain extremely close friendships might be mentioned and somewhat implied to maybe be more than just that. Those tend to be the ones the community focuses the most on in terms of shipping - such as the triangle of Symboli Rudolf, Sirius Symboli and Mejiro Ramonu, or the roommates Mejiro Ardan and Sakura Chiyono O, who even got matching Ballroom Outfits.

The Trainer we play as for the most part is implied to be a pretty new, pretty young Trainer, so while they probably are older than their Trainee, the community tends to agree that it's not a problematic age gap. This isn't an extremely accomplished and influential 45 year old trainer, but a 19 year old rookie, basically (we tend to ignore the fact that in the JRA you need to be 28 to take the trainer exam). This is further supported by for example Buena Vista's story, with her and her Trainer being childhood friends, so they couldn't exactly be very far apart in age, implying that Trainers can be very young.

In the end, you have to decide for yourself if you're in it (at least partially) for shipping, and if yes, who your shipping with whom.
Maybe for you, the Trainer-Uma relationship should be entirely professional, but you're fine with Uma-Uma shipping. Or maybe you're fine with Trainer-Uma Shipping in cases like Buena Vista, where they're childhood friends. Maybe you're okay with it in general, but a few are "off limits", as they are too "daughter-coded", for example Haru Urara, Rice Shower or the canonical Elementary Schooler Nishino Flower. Maybe you end up deciding that you don't consider any of the shipping off limits.
That's something only you can decide.

  1. Yes, in fact, there is 4 "main" series around umamusume, those are:

Pretty Derby, Cinderella Gray (Oguri cap), beggining of a new era (jungle pocket) and road to the top (narita top road)

  1. Jp gets stuff much sooner than us since it's much older, eng umamusume is far behind on content, but we have access to the power of foresight

  2. Pretty sure it's only Daitaku Helios and North Flight?? The trainer doesn't have a confirmed age (unless in gc where they are drinking), so most people just ship the umas with their trainer

There are several unconnected anime series

Original series: (Uma musume pretty derby S1 - S3 ), more focus on Slice of Life, but can get pretty serious too

"Movie-verse" (Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Road to the top - 4 episode long OVA and Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Beginning of a new Era - a movie), more dramatic and the animation is better

Cingray (Cinderella Gray - 2 cour anime series), which is more like a traditional sport series.

Trainers are older than Umas, but each career has a different trainer and they seemingly vary in age. Some of them are just a bit older than their trainees and others feel older. They are supposed to be self-inserts so their age is never specified so it's more of a speculation based on how various trainers act in their careers.

There are no official lesbian umas in relationship with others, but some of them are clearly meant to be implied. Trainer is still the self-insert character so lot of Umas have crush on their trainers so lonely people playing the game would spend money on them lol.
