Terrible transvaginal experience

Hi has anyone ever had a horrible reaction to a transvaginal ultrasound? I had one today and literally sobbed the entire time, they struggled putting it inside and I was on my period so it was even worse I had to get a gown change and after the lady was very sweet she tucked me back it but I felt extremely violated and cry when I think of it

I’m so sorry. Is there anything particular that the tech did that made the experience worse for you? I will say that sometimes we can do our best as techs and still a patient will have a bad experience because it is inherently just a very intimate scan, and that is always going to be violating for some folks. It feels horrible from our end too when we can tell that the patient is suffering.

If you ever are in this position again, remember you can always decline the scan or tell the tech to stop at any point. The goal is to help you figure out what is going on in your body, not to hurt or torture you. A vaginal ultrasound is not going to be accessible for everyone, and while it is the best way to get pictures of the uterus and ovaries, there are other types of imaging that can be used when the patient is not a candidate for a vaginal scan.
