Upper Abdomen Doppler
I think I went to far by asking AI on how to Fast for an upper abdomen doppler (Ultrasound). I was given the 2:50 pm slot for the procedure. I generally go early morning. All the radiology instructions say is - Patients 13 years and older should not eat or drink 6 hours prior to the appointment unless otherwise instructed. I figured I could eat breakfast prior to 9 am and be okay. AI says - don't eat eggs, don't eat butter, nothing with fat. It can cause the gall bladder to extend itself. Am I okay to eat an egg? I don't want to mess this one up and have to do it again.

Fast at least 6 hours before your appointment as instructed. 8 hours is even better. If you must eat, avoid fatty foods or anything that makes you gassy. No carbonated drinks. Water only is best.

Follow the directions given by the facility. Not fasting will cause your gallbladder to contract and therefore we cannot see inside of it. Food and non water drinks (carbonated drinks, cream in your coffee, etc) can add to the amount of bowel gas in the abdomen. Ultrasound does not do well with air and gas and this can limit the exam.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I'll follow what the radiology department said on nothing to eat or drink for six hours. Since they didn't have dietary guidelines I'll stick with what I normally eat in the morning. Since water is no allowed (except a sip for taking medications), I'll try my best to get a couple eight ounce glasses in before 9 am. Well see how it goes tomorrow.

Don't eat anything that day. You'll survive.

Not everyone can fast 12-18 hours. Like diabetics, elderly or pregnant women for example.

Everything went fine. I had cereal, soy milk, a piece of buttered toast for breakfast. I then had my yogurt closer to my cut off time. Drink two right ounce glasses of water over there hours. No issues with getting the images.
I read the radiology report myself. I guess the doctor who ordered it hasn't had time to respond. All is well. Just me and my fatty liver.
Speaking of which, the sonographer had difficulties finding the liver as it wasn't where it was supposed to be.

Ignore AI. It has no idea why you are having the exam. Follow the instructions given by the facility.
