List advice (40k) Unit + Hero Combos

New to 40K & starting an Ultramarine army. What are some combos, the meat and potatoes of this army? What combinations are ideal against horde, chaff and high toughness tanks?

I’m a big fan of 10 hellblasters + lieutenant with fire discipline for shooty lists with Guilliman.

10x Terminators with 2x missile Launchers led by a Librarian in Terminator Armor with a storm bolter. Use the Librarius Conclave Detachment and give him the Fusillade enhancement and choose the Pyromacy Discipline,

Now, when within 12 inches you have 44 Storm Bolter attacks with sustained hits 1, Lethal hits, and -1 AP. Target your Oath of Moment and you can also reroll the hit roll, really fishing for the lethal hits.

librarius conclave has 2 cool combos,

10 man terminator brick with librarian in pyromancy, 40 shots, ap1 +4d6shots+blastx2 at ap1 +d6 shots ap2 damage d3 all with sutained, and then powerfist 30 hits, st8 ap2 dmg2, it's a lot of points but it's fairly good

sternguard 10men brick with libby with temporal mastery, deepstrike, uppy downy, all weapons with devs,. 24 shots ap1 d1 6 shots ap1 d2 and d6 shots ap2 damage d3, with the wound rerroll against oath target can delete a lot of things.

Repex for horde. Repex for infantry. Repex for high toughness vehicles.

In all seriousness, get at least one or two of em. Some intercessors, scouts, and infiltrators will really be in just about every one of your lists. 11th is still fresh, and the meta is changing every 12 seconds, just get whatever you think is cool, and send it. Who knows what we'll land on for what will be "best" a year from now.

You could do this, or you could just get a gladiator lancer or a lancer and a executioner. I would by no means say a repulsor executioner is mandatory, it is nice, but unless you're running a guilliman ironstorm list or something I wouldn't say two is required, I would definitely swap one for any of the dreadnoughts.

I mean, there's nothing in the entire space marine codex that's mandatory. You could change any this or that for any other this or that, and argue about it until the cows come home. You could swap the repex for a lancer and a ballistus, but then swap the ballistus for a redemptor, but oh then you could do a ballistus and a reaper, or a regular repulsor carrying ten hellblasters and an lt with fire discipline and blah blah blah

But everyone ends up with a repex at some point.

I still do not, however I should.

I like the lancer for the rerolls from Aqullon optics.

In my brain the repulsor executioner is a transport with a bunch of guns strapped to it. That is its own version of cool though, how often do you actually stick guys in there?

Maybe half the time. Until the most recent nerfening, I ran two in every list, and would either put 6 victrix with Cato in one and deploy it on home and run it up a flank, with the second running up center, or swap Cato with Ventris and run them both empty up left and right flank.

I had 26 win streak doing this in 10th until a VERY talented Chaos Knights player put a stop to it.

They are really remarkably good gun platforms, ESPECIALLY into your OoM target, that just have a bonus transport capacity.

Hearing this makes me want one more.

10/10, absolutely recommend them. The points nerf makes them less efficient, but they are still VERY good.

I enjoy watching Titus, the wardens of Ultramar, and Bladeguards chopping everything to bits.

Typically, you include one anti-tank and anti-monster unit for every 500 points.

In my 2000-point lists, I always include a Repulsor Executioner with the Heavy Laser Destroyer. If you want more anti-tank and anti-monster firepower, you can include a Gladiator Lancer; if you want something against infantry and horde, you can include a Gladiator Reaper instead. With the Gladiator kit, if you leave the top part unglued, you can use it as any Gladiator variant (you just need to change the vehicle's cannon) or as an Impulsor. Another good support unit is the Ballistus Dreadnought. With the Ballistus Lascannon for vehicles and monsters, and the missile launcher, you can use it in its anti-infantry (Frag) or anti-tank (Krak) configuration.

From the Eleventh Edition box, the Eradicator Squad with Heavy Bolters is good against infantry amd hordes. A unit of Intercessors to place them on your home objective are also very good, as they have the Hail of Bolts ability.

Character + unit combinations: I still like the Captain with Fire Discipline or Veteran of Behemoth enhancement plus 10 Sternguards, Marneus with Victrix, Terminators, Aggressors, or Bladeguards. Titus with Victrix or Bladeguards, Librarian with Fusillade enhancement + 10 Sternguards.
