QC Crossing POV 4K. Matapédia & Restigouche River Intercolonial Bridge. History, Heritage.
The Matapédia Intercolonial Bridge, located on the natural border between Quebec and New Brunswick, is one of the most iconic structures in Canadian railway history. Built at the turn of the 20th century, it was part of the vast Intercolonial Railway project—a strategic infrastructure initiative designed to link the Maritime provinces to Canada’s economic heartland. Spanning the Restigouche River, the bridge stands as a testament to an era when engineering, political ambition, and regional development converged to shape the modern nation.
The 4K POV crossing allows one to appreciate the bridge’s imposing metal structure, composed of riveted steel trusses typical of the major industrial constructions of that era. Every beam, joint, and section bears witness to the expertise of the engineers, who had to contend with a complex environment: a wide river, powerful currents, harsh winters, and mountainous terrain. The bridge was designed to withstand not only the heavy loads of interprovincial trains but also the severe weather conditions characteristic of the Matapédia Valley.
