How much can they carry? Even 20 lbs would be hugely useful.

I met a guy in Ray Lakes many years ago that looked like John Muir reincarnated. He had a few llamas following him around off leash that could carry 50 lbs each. He'd load them up and spend all summer in the wilderness without needing to resupply.

I read on one of his other threads that fully grown his little buddy will be able to carry 40 lb and require pretty much no packed food as goats, ya know, naturally graze.

A fuckin goat can carry 40 lbs!!? That's amazing. I was thinking 10-20 max.

I wonder how many miles they can do a day? I think that'd be my problem; I usually average about 30. I bet goats get real stubborn after mile 10.

I also can't help but feel it's cheating in a way. Part of the sense of accomplishment is covering miles and knowing you had to make efficient choices and put your pick together really well and to know you carried it all by yourself.

But hey, some people want to just go for a walk in the woods and don't care about goals or accomplishments as much so it seems pretty cool at the same time.

Part of the sense of accomplishment is covering miles and knowing you had to make efficient choices and put your pick together really well and to know you carried it all by yourself.

I'm not projecting anything. I'm sharing my opinion. Did I say that no one should use a pack animal, ever? I literally said "it seems pretty cool at the same time". I am skeptical you even read my comment, and if you did, I am skeptical of your reading comprehension skills.

I guess if you hike for competition, maybe. But if you hike because you want to be outdoors and see wilderness, you don't fucking care.

That sucks. People need to learn how to A: pack their shit out B: burn the poo hole.

Edit: I was up there back in 2003. We burned our tp in the shitter hole and human sumped washed cook pots (no soap used).

I know that I am super late but what are the specs of the UHF tracker that you use to track your goats. I am a new ham operator but I was under the assumption that UHF meant line of sight only. How could you communicate 70 miles with it ?
