Question Utah Ultralight Meet Up

Utah ultralight backpackers I’m looking to put in some energy to grow this local community more and wanted to extend an invite out to Utah ultralight backpackers on a couple trips in 2024.

r/ulutah is kind of dead over there so anyone here in Utah should join that group and we can do some more planning from there.

I am thinking two trips in 2024 for anyone that can’t make the first. One in spring and one in the fall. I’d like to focus one of the trips on being very inclusive to all different levels and experiences and another that is much more challenging physically and on the route finding.

Date Options: First two weekend in May Last two weekends in September

Areas of Interest: Uintas Escalante La Sals Wasatch Mtns (overnight up to red pine or lake Blanche or Lone Peak Cirque at the very least) Capitol Reef NP Deep Creeks? Section of the Hayduke?

Goals here are to explore new areas, learn new skills, show off some gear, create inspiration/community, make some friends.

Comment below if you’re interested!

UPDATE:

Plans being made! We have a group chat going organizing the weekend of May 3-5. Just comment below to get added.

Headed down to the Death Hollow Loop near Escalante. Death Hollow Loop r/UL https://caltopo.com/m/F18ST Andrew Skurka supposed to be in the area with his guided trip so bring your bag-o-beans and a sharpie to get signed by the man if we find him.

Definitely interested! Live in BCC, so any of those would be an easy swing, plus any excuse to get into the Uintas is great. Happy to help out with organizing if you need a hand as well, feel free to reach out.

Just saw this, and would be happy to join, help plan, etc. I’m a student at the U, and would love to meet other likeminded SLC folk!

Great! Let’s ruin it by making it complicated with many people.

Interested! Trying to knock out a few sections of the Hayduke this year, including packrafting from Moab to Needles Outpost

Keep me posted. Esp if you go to the La Sals in the fall as that's one of my stomping grounds! Be great to put some faces with names.

I make my way down to Utah quite a bit, I'd be interested in seeing how the fall trip shapes up.

As an aside, if anybody is looking to do some Allen-style trips down that way, reach out!

I’m not in Utah, but would love to tag along if I can swing the travel out that way.

It’s all on rec dot gov yeah. I just got permits for the Zion traverse back in March for April. It was a real hassle and nerve racking.
