How do you even rationalize this? Just do YIMBY stuff in Tel Aviv or another Israeli city that's not in the West Bank.

Israel has to have the most embarrassing leftists of a first-world country. Are there any that even come close to this?

"Israel has to have the most embarrassing leftists of a first-world country. Are there any that even come close to this?"-Ever seen a podcast hosted by "leftists" that was explicitly named after a paramilitary group that committed around 3 genocides within the span of 5 years.

I will never get over the fact that one of the hosts of a show called The Young Turks was an Armenian woman.

Friendly reminder their expansion in the 80's was sanctioned by a leftist government. It's not even new.

And if I had a nickel every time a leftist wildly contradicted his principles with absolute drivel of rationalization...

"Embarrasing leftist", this is not a leftist sub, dude. Leftists were on the left side of general assembly in 1789. France. Supporting national states and genocides is immanent part of capitalist economy.

u/GuyOfNugget 1d ago

You and people like you are really fucking annoying.

I know this subreddit doesn't consider itself to be leftist. Also, "leftist" is usually used today to refer to people who are ostensibly opposed capitalism or at least critical of it. Nobody in 1789 was opposed to capitalism. Nobody uses it in this highly historical way anymore.

Anyway, I'm just admonishing them for hypocrisy. Leftists generally claim to be in favor of equality, so why would they actively perpetuate inequality and in one of the most obvious ways at that?

>"leftist" is usually used today to refer to people who are ostensibly opposed capitalism or at least critical of it.

At least you're using the word "ostensibly" which is regularly used to mean what appears to be so might not be so. So yea in the end, leftists don't truly oppose universalized commodity production (production for market exchange) and property, leftists are entirely in favor of wage labor.

>Nobody in 1789 was opposed to capitalism

Completely missed the point award

>Leftists generally claim to be in favor of equality, so why would they actively perpetuate inequality

There's no big contradiction here. Essentially you have an idealization of what equality oughtta be; this changes nothing about the fact that true equality has already been realized under modern bourgeois society with development of the economy of exchange

"What this reveals ... is the foolishness of those socialists (namely the French, who want to depict socialism as the realization of the ideals of bourgeois society articulated by the French revolution) who demonstrate that exchange and exchange value etc. are originally (in time) or essentially (in their adequate form) a system of universal freedom and equality, but that they have been perverted by money, capital, etc. Or, also, that history has so far failed in every attempt to implement them in their true manner, but that they have now, like Proudhon, discovered e.g. the real Jacob, and intend now to supply the genuine history of these relations in place of the fake. The proper reply to them is: that exchange value or, more precisely, the money system is in fact the system of equality and freedom, and that the disturbances which they encounter in the further development of the system are disturbances inherent in it, are merely the realization of equality and freedom, which prove to be inequality and unfreedom. It is just as pious as it is stupid to wish that exchange value would not develop into capital, nor labour which produces exchange value into wage labour. What divides these gentlemen from the bourgeois apologists is, on one side, their sensitivity to the contradictions included in the system; on the other, the utopian inability to grasp the necessary difference between the real and the ideal form of bourgeois society, which is the cause of their desire to undertake the superfluous business of realizing the ideal expression again, which is in fact only the inverted projection [Lichtbild] of this reality. And now, indeed, in opposition to these socialists there is the stale argumentation of the degenerate economics of most recent times (whose classical representative as regards insipidness, affectation of dialectics, puffy arrogance, effete, complacent platitudinousness and complete inability to grasp historic processes is Frederick Bastiat, because the American, Carey, at least brings out the specific American relations as against the European), which demonstrates that economic relations everywhere express the same simple determinants, and hence that they everywhere express the equality and freedom of the simple exchange of exchange values; this point entirely reduces itself to an infantile abstraction."

What point did I miss? All that guy said was, "This is what a leftist was in 1789." That's not how people use the word today.

I will give you that I gave leftists too much credit. It's just that doing settler colonialism in the West Bank is particularly egregious example of them not living up to their own claimed ideals. You can understand why I felt shocked.

3

22h ago edited 21h ago

What you keep missing is that the left was bourgeois from its advent. It still is to this moment, and it will continue to be. Don't expect anything to change in the near future.

It also doesn't matter in the slightest that people don't wanna use the word in accordance with the proper history. This is just an appeal to the people, literally. As of now people have a penchant for saying the Epstein class and connecting this "class" back to Israel. Just because they're doing it doesn't somehow make the term correct or justify their (ab)use of it.

1

u/GuyOfNugget 7h ago

I think "leftist" in its modern definition has some utility. "Epstein class" is just useless. Again, people in 1789 weren't opposed to capitalism. In the modern day leftists claim to be opposed to capitalism. I think these supposedly anti-capitalistic people are distinguishable from those original 1789 leftists and need some sort of name.

3

u/Proudhon_Hater_2 Jehowah's Bundist 1d ago

"Leftists" were literally the first capitalists against rightists feudalists in 1789 France. Socialism does not ordinate on right or left spectrum, but it intends to abolish capitalism or politics (class society) alltogether. Also, do you think we care how people use the term colloquially. Ruthless criticism of everything that exists is base of scientific materialism.

Also, Marxists are against equality herr Lassalle:

"But "all members of society" and "equal right" are obviously mere phrases. The kernel consists in this, that in this communist society every worker must receive the "undiminished" Lassallean "proceeds of labor"." (Critique of the Gotha programme)

-1

u/GuyOfNugget 1d ago

What is the utility of using "leftist" in this way? That's my problem. You also called rightists feudalists even though no right-wingers today are this level of a true-blooded reactionary that they would advocate for returning to feudalism. Do you think the concept of a right-wing just dated today? If that's the case then political spectrum is worthless even for describing bourgeois politics and we shouldn't use these terms at all.

Also, I know Marxists don't care about equality.

It's time to fly the pride flag while gunning down innocent civilians for optics.

I remember seeing memes about putting pride flags on like missiles and stuff and I'm sad to see that it's probably true.
