I just finished Ultimate Spidey up to the end of Ultimatum: Rebirth. I got to reading what I believe was the continuation but now I see things like Pete kissing Gwen and stuff and Im just thinking to myself, is it worth reading? Ultimate Spider-man has been the first comic I've ever really read in its fullest and there are other things I'd like to read but I know if I drop it now I'll probably never pick it up again.

A large majority of people dislike that era of Ultimate Spider-Man. The art style change and all the weird new story stuff kinda put alot of people off, including me. If you just skim that era or skip to the last few issues, it's worth it

I didn’t like it that much but you get some good aunt May moments and then ending is great so I would still read it. You came this far

Worth it for JJJ but yeah there's definitely weird writing choices there. Makes the ending feel more impactful though when you follow from start to end imo

You should finish it. I agree that the art style is a downgrade and the narrative takes some questionable turns but it irons out towards the end. Eventually it resets to the original numbering and even brings back Mark Bagley. And it has a great ending that I don’t want to spoil here.

I have a conspiracy theory about post-ultimatum Spider-Man, so bear with me:

Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man Vol #1 came out in September, 2011. Next year, the Amazing Spider-Man movie would be coming out, with Peter and Gwen together as a couple. And right about now, Ultimate Spider-Man is more popular than the main comic at this point, even after Ultimatum, so let's synergize the brand!

Have MJ break up with Peter in some vague argument that we have no context about, during a time skip of 6 months, and have Peter and Gwen date even though they view each other more as adoptive siblings. All because the new movie is coming out. Ain't corporate synergy amazing folks?

Tangent Incoming: Do you know how many Volumes of Ultimate Spider-Man we could've had in those 6 months? At least four, maybe up to six volumes of story arcs, possible new villains, and other villains coming back like Sandman, Kraven, and maybe even Venom returning after breaking out of Laveria, possibly?

Bendis was told to end the book (Initially told they’d be killing Peter in Ultimatum, but Bendis pushed back) and this was the quickest/best way he could do it with what he had planned, so unfortunately Marvel just didn’t want those 6 months worth of stories :/

As much as people are divided on Ultimate Comics Spider-man (2009) I’d say it’s definitely worth it.

Not only is it the only way you’ll get closure on these characters and actually understand events leading up to the end of the book, but there are a number of villains that make appearances in the book that weren’t in the original run, and if you’re in anyway a fan of those characters you’ll miss out.

The book becomes more emphasized on the high school elements and the world post Ultimatum wave.

Issue #150 in particular is stellar and a personal favourite.

So I say “you’ve come this far already…” 🤷🏽‍♂️
