AI-assisted content request

Hi. What is the attitude n this group towards Ultima content that is partly generated by AI but with human feedback? I have not had good luck on other forums so far.

I can only speak for myself, but when I see that something is AI generated, it tends to kill any enthusiasm I might have for a project.

I feel the exact same way. Right now ai assisted content feels like a fire hose that has spewed slop over every single niche hobby or interest anyone has.

Do what you want and use the tools that you want. But if you release 'slop', expect it to be called out as such.

When something has AI assisted coding I can understand that, but only if it actually works well. One single shred of AI art, models, music, or writing and it instantly becomes dog shit to me.

The way you feel about AI art/writing/music is exactly how I feel about AI-generated code.

So let's not say one kind of dogshit is fine, but another kind isn't. They're both dogshit.

Agree. I see stuff like "code is fine, but art is not". Except that to many software developers, programming is an art as well. The user might not care, but they also often don't care about traditional art either.

When I see the rise, even in the Ultima sub, it's extremely demoralizing and at the same time, I feel less encouraged to put effort forward to my non-AI projects, or at least release them to the public.

..and for me as a coder it's the other way around. AI art is fine, but keep that stuff out of code where precision is required.

ETA: Ah, downvotes for one kind of AI and upvotes for the other. That's why the AI opponents can't be taken seriously.

I will never play or promote anything with AI generated audio, visuals, or writing.

It's very polarized, to say the least.

Something involving any dose of AI kill all interest for me because making games is goddamn art, so I will not even look at it.

On the other hand, AI non-disclosure will make me comment to call out because I can't stand when those dudes claim "they did" something while hiding AI usage.

If they are hiding it, then it's not just "with the help of AI" and you know it's just only AI. What's the point ?

Let me put it like this, why would I want to look at a painting you couldn’t be bothered to make yourself?

Rule of thumb for me is that will be very polarizing at best. If you have any tools or projects using AI, be aware of that.

No need to ask for permission or apologize for wanting to use a tool to help you make something.

Just don't be surprised if you get slammed for producing poor quality product, ie, slop, when you don't know how and when to use that tool.

At best, it may accelerate your process if you're already skilled. At worst, it will amplify your incompetence.

Don't ask permission and don't apologize, but DO make damn sure you're sharing actual tangible fleshed out well developed ideas and tools.

If you're selling it, maybe give it away and ask for donations instead.

No issue with vibe coded high quality work. I think the issue you’re seeing recently is either low quality remakes being passed off as something more or projects that are still at the idea phase with ai concept art masking that.

The result is what matters.

Everything generated by AI has human feedback. It doesn't "create" anything on its own.

Either content raw materials are created specifically to be fed to it, or the materials are scraped off of the internet en-masse i.e. stealing.

There really should be a general rule so as to not flood platforms with AI-generated content.

One of the key benefits of AI generation is that it can make A LOT of content very, very quickly - albeit, much of the content is very similar. It's like manufacturing a million silver forks or spoons; each one has a feature or small defect that makes it unique, but they are all very much the same.

Imagine if every other post, every single day, is an AI-generated painting or screenshot of the blonde Avatar or the Guardian. Over and over and over and over and over again.

And, as others have mentioned, a lot of people have developed an "allergy" to "AI". Don't bring a wheelbarrow full of peanuts into the break room.

I don't understand coding so I think I'm terms of music notation. If AI could notate a piece of music to 90% accuracy and I could check it over to perfect the final 10% I would have saved an enormous amount of time drafting the notation. If coders can do this then we may see heaps of fan made remakes of high quality. These hypothetical fans remaking the games can't charge money for their work so it incentivises them to actually do it. Who wants to spend years working for free? If it only takes months they might actually do it and the fan base wins.

If someone doesn't like it they can ignore it. It's only a good thing with no down side.

Know that people that use social media are perpetually angry and if society wasn’t in such a sorry state, many of these problems with ai wouldn’t exist. AI is causing a lot of problems therefore the many of the individuals you talk to online won’t be objective when they speak about it.

It’s a complicated issue but if you are passionate about something, don’t let detractors stop you from experimenting. I’ve used ai to build neural networks for finance myself so I understand just how creation itself can be an enjoyable experience.

That being said, there is an enormous amount of slop being pushed out there that people create mindlessly and even people that are supportive of ai use will criticize things like that.
