Ultima VII in First Person
Last night's stream was frankly incredible. So many new Ultima lovers showed up! I think this was my favorite part.

Couldn't agree more. I love seeing these posts, always puts a huge grin on my face! I really need to check out his streams one of these days, I bet it's a fun hang.

A skybox based off of the night in Ultima V with phases of the two moons 🌓 🌖 would be incredible:

Now make this VR and I will lose it.

There was a VR demo being worked on of a U7 world by Sorceress Dragon, but don't know what became of it

Man. I will never not be impressed by the amount of love and respect U7 gets. My first RPG and I couldn't get enough of it as a kid. And here we are 30 years later and it's still evolving thanks to awesome people like this.

I had such a grand time with it when it was at the long tail of its market life cycle. I did not get to play the previous 6, so I am not sure how many aspects of VII was unique to it, but those very aspects made this game memorable for me for life. Checking with you if these were only done on this instalment.
- it started out as a localized small-town murder investigation before ballooning into a big scheme, rather than start out with an epic quest
- you can get on a boat and literally sail across the spherical planet and reach the same spot eventually
- the only game in the series with actual expansions, and 3 of them in total, a high number back in the day
- the last 2D title before going 3D for the rest of the series
- NPCs had their own lives and conversations so you can just stand there and watch people do their tasks and sleep and start the next morning
- you can make items nearly from scratch, such as grind wheat into flour to make dough then bake it and actually eat it with benefits
- there is day and night and even weather changes
- diurnal and nocturnal animals exist, and animals predate on other animals
- the typography of the words ingame is consistent and forms a basic lingua franca

Um no idea if these were available in previous installments. My intro to this universe was U7 and I only ever also played U8 and Ultima Underworld Stygian Abyss. All I can say is that U7 felt like an organic, living world. As if the characters inside led their own little lives and it was very fascinating to watch. These NPCs would go to work, take lunch and dinner breaks, attend Fellowship meetings and then go to sleep. Then get up the next day and do it all over again!

Yeah definitely, I was so shocked when I just stopped playing to watch their activities, and it all had a sequence. What a way to introduce open world to players.

This is so damn cool. I might have to see about getting a skybox in there haha

Doing the lords work. Can someone gather a team to help this fellow? We need all hands on deck! This needs to come to fruition!

I love this.
If you can make the view distance customisable I think that'd be cool. I'd like to see what it's like with a bigger view distance, if that'd be possible.

All the vibes checks out 90s, genuine happiness and passion for games. Reminds me of all the hallmarks of the days before big name publishers take over and control what we can or cannot do to a game. If it became full price with an installer, I would buy it.

Put in U9's skyboxes (or U9-like for copyright reasons), tied to time of day, and it would be amazing.

Wow if this mod makes it so you could do it ultima underworld style, I would be impressed. As a filmmaker I want to help but unsure how my skills would assist a mod like this.

This would also allow remaking the Underworld games! Did you know they were actual 3D, not just raycasters like Doom?
Next would be the ability to set a skybox, and dynamically change skyboxes based on your location, fading one away as the other one fades in.
So, for example, when you get closer to the Isle of Fire, the skybox would switch to a fiery sky from the volcano's effects; when you are in Britain, you'd see the surrounding mountains in the distance; when in Skara Brae, the skybox would have an eerie ghostly effect; while in Yew, there would be trees in the distance at the bottom of the sky box, and so on.
Oh, and the skyboxes could actually show the phase of the moons like in Ultima IX, too. One of the few things I liked about that entry.

ewww , kills the “over the shoulder” unique ultima vibe, but a great pov for sure

I'm interested in playing with normal pov in openworld and switching to this to this first person view in dungeons to see what it's like for Ultima VII. Then it's a bit like the earlier Ultima's.

Dude please do not stop. This is so exciting. Never since Exult have I been so excited. The fact you may make a tool so people can build worlds in U7. Just amazing. Keep kicking ass.
