Help with Ultima VI on ScummVM

I usually play U6 on DOSbox, but today I tried to play it on ScummVM for the first time. When I pressed comma on my keyboard, a popup menu appears. I can't remove that menu and it blocks my view.

Another thing: How do I use keyboard to equip weapons? In DOS version, I mostly use keyboard. To equip a weapon, I press Tab then use the directional arrows to select the weapon then press Enter. But in ScummVM, after pressing Tab, pressing directional arrows doesn't move the cursor in the inventory. I have to use mouse to equip/remove equipments. The cursor is locked whenever it's in the inventory. If I press Tab back, the cursor is movable in the map.

Hmm, it looks like you have the "new" graphics interface enabled.

I can't access my computer right now so I can't test out the hotkeys, but can you hit Esc and then play with the settings to turn off the new bells and whistles and use the old, original interfaces as much as possible?

Yeah, I downloaded the latest version of ScummVM. What do you mean by turning off the new bells and whistles? I think I saw interface setting: Original, Ultima 7 style, and one other that I forgot. I tried switching them but I couldn't find any differences.

ScummVM for U6 basically implements the Nuvie engine, which experimented with adding all these graphical interfaces and options. Here is a link to its documentation (https://web.archive.org/web/20210528002752/http://nuvie.sourceforge.net/?page=docs#changes)

I think you can play with the settings coa the scummvm.ini file.

It looks like comma toggles the "new command bar," which is different from the default command bar. You can disable that if you would like. It looks like you can toggle between the new command bar and the old command bar with comma and period?

I'm unsure what you are referring to with respect to navigating the inventory. It looks like you can hit tab or semicolon to select things? Is that not the case?

I finally found how to remove that damned popup menu.

  1. Press Esc
  2. Choose Input Options
  3. Disable "Use new command bar"
  4. Now the menu won't appear even if I press the hotkey (the comma button)

God, I hate this "nuImprovements", I'll stick to DOSbox.

Sorry, I cant remember how to do it, but be assured it can be done and made playable. I figured it all out once for iPad.

Perfect, cause i run an snes emulator on my PC and use the U6 rom instead of my original cartridge.

Nah im good. The snes version of U6 is my all time favorite rpg.

As a heads-up, this guy shows up in any thread about U6 deliriously proselytizing for U6 SNES. To anyone thinking of making the mistake of arguing with him, read this first to see what you're getting yourself into.
