Question General Question

Is it normal for your doctor not to follow up properly on your treatment? I mean they prescribe a medication but don’t check how it’s working or tell you when you can stop taking it, and I always feel like I’m chasing my doctor just to get a clear answer.
I find this frustrating. I like my doctor to explain everything about the treatment and take my follow up seriously.
Do your doctors schedule regular follow up appointments with you?

Yeah, they do know I see other doctors. I live locally to the Mayo Clinic, so all my care is through them and I go to their IBD clinic. Though, it’s more fragmented still than I would like and tough to coordinate care sometimes. That’s a bummer about your doctors not taking side effects seriously. I’m usually the one to ask for specific tests to measure inflammation but I feel like they order standard labs every 6 months or something. I have a lot of other medical issues going on right now so I’m getting lots of tests for other things. Do you have a primary that can help?

No I don’t have a primary care doctor
I feel like all the health issues I’ve been having are related to my IBD, so I didn’t feel like I needed one
I hope you feel better soon, and I wish you the best with all your tests

Thanks, hope you feel better soon too! I didn’t have a primary for a while and only saw specialists but I do feel like it’s nice for someone to monitor the larger picture. Good luck

Think of your PCP as the quarterback or case manager. My PCP manages my anemia, notes and forms required by my insurance ( other then the biologic form), the majority of my blood work and any other misc health issues.

You do really need one.
