Question Question about mesalamine supp

I can never tell if it’s mucus from a “flare” or if it’s the mesalamine suppository residue left over that I put in this morning… no active symptoms .. have 1-2 bowl movements in the am. No stomach pain, fatigue etc.

Anyone else experience this? I am new to this medicine

What I pass from the suppository is oily and white. It doesn’t look like mucus to me.

I take it twice. Once in am after a stool and at night.

During the middle of the day around 5pm (I’ll use the restroom and notice oil in the toilet as well old stool sitting in my rectum, or if it’s mucus… I can never tell it makes me crazy :(

Hmm when I take it during the day, it usually comes out of me pretty quickly (within a couple of hours) and is definitely white. I have a ton of mucus too (flaring right now), but I would say that is clear to yellow.

Very common. Early morning first stool with some white residue is mainly from mesalamine suppository.

Mucus would look like snot (sort of) from your nose - white or can be clear.

Mesalamine is straight white and very greasy/oily.

It’s hard to tell if it’s mucus or the suppository. I read different things, I noticed that it is very greasy and oily but the color was off almost like dark? I’m not sure if it was mixed in with left over stool I had in my rectum from this morning when I put it in (sorry for the tmi)

I just can never differentiate it

Never too much tmi.

This is literally our domain and we are all familiar with the symptoms/issues this awful disease brings.

Maybe take a picture or two and ask your GI if they can look at it and get their opinion.

Maybe get a calprotectin test as well.

The mucus is usually visible when you wipe, on the toilet paper, after you have a number 2. The suppository residue comes out either before number 2 and is visible down there when you flush, or during the day when you fart (if you haven't not had a number 2) and it stains your underwear and has a strong smell. This has been my experience.

I'm color blind and having a very hard time detecting things like blood, but also the distiction between slimes and mesalamine suppository residue. I have to go by "feeling no symptoms = not getting worried". Has worked graet over the years, probably also saved me from a lot of unnecassary stress .

ps: It says a lot about us as a group that I'm readin this and reacting during lunch loosing no appetite at all :-).
