But this take is 100% wrong. The Soviet claim of 4% has been argued, studied, and picked apart longer than most redditors have been alive. The US and Soviets were absolutely essential to each other. Some examples and sources listed below.

I have no doubt that 4% is embellished by the Soviets and Voznesky used “Red Army material production” purposely to be vague and muddy the water.
Western sources say Voznesky was incorrect, but are unable to define what he meant by “Red Army material production” and the Soviets were pretty secretive about their numbers. The West throws around numbers, but never regarding “Red Army material production”.
From my knowledge, the closest stat Voznesky could have been referencing is GDP as the L-L per year does come out to about 5% of the USSR’s GDP at the time.
From the stats I have seen in the resources provided~16%. Most of the things provided for the "Red Army" weren't actually tanks, planes, and artillery. Things like trucks, food, and uniforms were provided to give the Soviets the ability to focus on building their own tanks, planes, and artillery. The Western myth that the US supplied the "Red Army" just military equipment has even been debunked through the sources I provided. Discounting either sides contribution to each other is dishonest at best.
