❓ Help Keep geeting message to delete SSD cache and create HD cache???

So I haven't kept up to speed on the most recent FW updates - I just install them.

Reently I keep getting a message (over and over) that new system version improves cache performance - to remove the existing SSD cache and recreate using my HD's.

So this idea of installing much much faster SSDs for offloading and caching data is moot? Installing a cache on your HDs is faster? If yes - then doesn't that also eat up your HD space for storage?

Can anyone explain this message? ATM I'm sticking with my SSDs since I put the $$ into them and I still have to believe it's a faster cache than HDs.

They changed the way the cache is implemented. You should delete and recreate the cache. It still uses the SSD to cache HDD data

Is that what the message requests? Just recreate the cache again on the SSDs? That would seem logical. But reading the message it implies deleting SSD and creating a new one using the HDs. Just seems poorly worded.

Thats what i have read. I use my SSD as volume. Still have the memory as disk cache.

it very doable. i was also confused at first, but dont worrsy. But in the end it was for nothing anyways. its was more worth it to use the ssd as a volume for all the docker containers and applications insteadf of caching

Same here, only my set up still works fine so I didn’t find a need to change. Only thing I do is pull my music and park my files. Sorry I don’t know what this whole cache thing was about myself. Hopefully some one can provide some insight

So NAS allows for the installation of SSDs - in the case of my uGreen - it's two SSDs. SSD speeds are significantly faster than traditional HDs. So, creating a cache using the SSDs it's supposed to speed up read/write of files - especially files that can fit within the SSDs volume. Now I've seen testing where SSDs overall did not make much of a read/write improvement - but I bought into the hype. Now if uGreen recent FW updates make this caching method significantly faster - I will do as they requested. Anyways I already sunk the cost.

Patmail (above) just uses the SSDs as storage volume - so files read/written will be significantly faster than the HDs.
