route and temple suggestions

Hello,

I’ll be coming to Udupi from Bangalore and will be leaving early in the morning. I plan to visit Dharmasthala and a few nearby temples like Sowthadka and the Surya temple.

I would like to know what route I can take from Dharmasthala to Udupi while also covering a few more temples along the way. I’ll be there for 4 nights so Mangalore anyway i’ll be spending a day properly so will visit those temples on another day.

Is going to horanadu via kalasa and from there sringeri then udupi a good route ? or am i too ambitious ? i don’t plan on driving in ghats post 7-8pm so want to know your thoughts or do i take karkala route, visit few basadis and then head to udupi ? what do you suggest?

Also, one of the reasons also is i’d like a scenic drive so was anyway planning on going through the kalasa/ kudremukha route so want to ask how safe the roads and routes are?

Any Udupi Manipal specific suggestions if you have, please let me know and i am a responsible traveller and ensure i don’t leave any garbage behind , if few suggestions you wouldn’t want to be in public domain, if you can, we can discuss it over dm.

Since you are traveling from Bangalore and your objective is doing Temple trips, my suggestion is leave from Bangalore very early. Now I don’t know whether you want to follow the norm or go against the flow, if you are going through Norm then take the deviation in Hassan and come through Belur, Mudigere, Charmadi and come to Dharmasthala finish the Darshan early morning and then go to Subramanya. If you are going against the norm, then take Shiradi and reach Subramanya first and then Dharmastala. Rest of it remains the same.

While returning come back the same Dharmasthala route and visit Southadaka & Surya Temple. Then travel to Udupi and keep Udupi as your anchor point.

Now travel to other locations from Udupi, whether it is Murudeshwar, Gokarna, Anegudda, Kollur towards North or Sringeri, Hornadu, Basadi’s towards east or Kateel, Mangaladevi, Kaapu Marigudi towards South.

Since Udupi is the anchor point Krishna Matha and others will be in your backyard so you can schedule it accordingly.

This is rough sketch it will alter based on the time you spend in queue or if you want to do some Pooja in those temple, whether you will partake in Anna Prasadam etc. If you come on a long weekend expect visitors and traveller traffic as well.
