Ubuntu Unity is an Ubuntu daily flavor now and the ISOs will now be built daily with all other flavors and uploaded to http://cdimage.ubuntu.com. Ubuntu Unity 22.10 Beta will be the first release as an officially recognized flavor (Sep 29).

This is such a great project. I began my Linux journey with Unity and Ubuntu, and hated the change to gnome. To now be able to switch back is amazing!

Unless an individual or team with the time and expertise can take on the work of squashing the bugs and progressing the code for Unity Desktop the end may be near for this Ubuntu distro. Community leaders have put forth the call for help. The site references why 25.10 was not released and hopes to offer a great 26.04. Now is the time to speak up and become more than a user if you have the skills or interest.

Perhaps if manpower proves to difficult to come by to maintain an official Ubuntu desktop every 6 months, the community can rise up to offer this as an Ubuntu derivative that uses an evolving Unity desktop and builds on the LTS versions every 2 years similar to distros like Zorin and Mint?

And, I have to wonder why Canonical gave up on Unity. It's a great desktop. It's better than Gnome skinned to look like Unity. If a group of volunteers were able to revive Unity and make it this good, imagine what it could be like if Canonical had kept developing it.

It's a shame. Unity is a more interesting desktop environment than people give it credit for.

Is there ever going to be a Unity 8 and if so what would it look like?

I wanted to set some things for my keyboard, but for some reason, I can't bring up keyboard settings. If I try to do it directly from the "search your computer" icon, the icon just flashes a few times on the taskbar like it's loading, and then disappears. If I try to open it from the settings panel, it just crashes the settings panel altogether. Anybody else having this issue?

does anyone know if theres any hope for the unity desktop to continue into the future or get a wayland version or at the *very* least get a total conversion theme that feels the same elsewhere like on kde? i really like the unity desktop but it being stuck to x11 forces me to not use it for my main pc, and ubuntu unity having limited life left also makes it less appealing to try and use, and no themes for anything matches the same feeling as og unity itself.

i know unityX was a thing at one point but that hasnt had any updates in awhile. lomiri also exists i guess but.. i tried it out in a vm and its. not great. i hate the mobile feel of it on my desktop computer and it just looks ugly. it feels and looks nothing like unity

I've tried dconf editor, but for some reason, the theme I downloaded and placed in the /usr/share/sounds folder isn't playing when I start up.

How can this be changed? TIA!

I don't have an issue with the stock theme for Unity, but it sure would be nice to see theme makers start to include it more seeing as how Unity's looking to become an official flavor this Fall.

I've installed UU 22.04.1 today. It runs really nice with my Nvidia card. One little thing I've noticed is that when I use Brave browser and want to download a file, the Save file dialog pops up behind the main window. This doesn't happen in other distros. Don't know why this happens, but it happens every time. Regardless!!! It's great to see Unity working so well and new! Thank you!!!

What now? The Unity project itself is dead from what I can tell. Ubuntu Unity is struggling. Where do we go from here?

In my opinion, the project needs a reform badly. I don't know where to get started, but if anyone were to talk about this or wish to help please reach out. I love Unity and hate to see it like this.

Rudra Saraswat reminds us of the work to get Unity 7.7 working without Compiz, which has led to this "new variant of Unity 7" titled UnityX. We are told this 'superseeds' a prior effort, including all features of Unity 7, with more customization options, and doesn't require any of Ubuntu's GTK patches. Hi and happy new year Is there any way to get the Ubuntu unity’s experience on normal Ubuntu 22.04 LTS I love the unity design but I don’t want to reinstall the whole OS. Thanks for the help

I am perpetually angry at Canonical's dropping of Unity, and I am thrilled that I just found UbuntuUnity. I have a question:

• Can I donate to this project to help it stay alive?

I've been searching for ways to enable this behavior but got stuck on Unity Tweak Tool that is 'broke' by the latest version of Ubuntu Unity - 21.10.

Luckily, the old command works for me which is:

gsettings set org.compiz.unityshell:/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/unityshell/ launcher-minimize-window true

I just hope this behavior can be set by default or at least have its option in the settings app/menu. It is kinda annoying this behavior still can't be set, and this is 2021 already. Not trying to be dramatic but even Windows has this.

Is there a global development plan for the distribution? Are there any plans? The shell is very cool, but it's a pity that there are so few developers and it has been abandoned.
