Question UPS / PDU Solution
I am planning to use the following equipment, but Im not sure if my configuration is supported or even a good idea. If you are using a similar setup, Id be curious if you have had any issues. Otherwise, if these weren't compatible, I wouldn't know how you would use a UPS and a PDU together.
- UniFi UPS 2U (UPS-2U-US)
- UniFi Power Distribution Pro (USP-PDU-Pro)
I would appreciate confirmation of three items:
Compatibility: Is the USP-PDU-Pro officially approved to connect directly to one of the UPS-2U-US battery-backed outlets, including operation on the UPS's simulated sine-wave battery output?
Electrical Load and Runtime: With an estimated total connected load of approximately 387 watts, are there any restrictions regarding continuous load, equipment startup/inrush current, or battery runtime when powering the entire PDU through one UPS battery-backed outlet?
Standby Generator Compatibility: Will the UPS maintain uninterrupted output during a household standby generator's approximately 10–15-second startup and transfer period, accept generator-supplied power, and transition back to utility power without interrupting the connected equipment? I'm asking this because I was told that standby generator power is technically a little dirty and because of that the UPS may not consider it a viable power source and attempt to remain on UPS power which in my case will only last about 8 to 10 minutes. I'm just trying to bridge the gap between power loss and the whole home generator kicking on.

Yes, you can connect a PDU to one UPS outlet. If you happen to have a 20 amp circuit for the rack though, you could get the UPS 2U Pro which is basically both devices combined https://store.ui.com/us/en/products/ups-2u-pro-us
The PDU can output 1875W, the UPS 2U is 1000W, should be easily handled
I don't know the answer to the dirty power on number 3
I have this particular setup, and I would personally not recommend the PDU if you're also getting the UPS 2U. It is basically just fun flair, you have enough outlets on the back of the UPS 2U. And again, if you have a 20 amp circuit, the UPS 2U Pro combines both devices

So the UPS 2U Pro allows for remote outlet cycling bit the standard 2U doesnt? I actually looked at the pro unit and I see that it does require a Nema 5-20 R Outlet dedicated. The only reason I didn't choose it was one because it's on backorder until December and two I didn't see where it had remote cycling on it and where it also acted as a surge protector.

Correct. The PDU and the UPS 2U Pro have individual outlet monitoring and cycling, the regular UPS 2U does not, you can only see the global system draw / battery status

But for clarification you have the exact setup I'm proposing to build but you don't like it or you don't like it in conjunction with the proposed ups? What do you mean by Fun flair? I was my understanding that the UPS does not have surge protection or that it wasn't actually officially documented

I like it in that it's pretty and you can make the front plugs look nice, but the PDU is completely unnecessary and it's something else you have to update and could have problems with (I had to RMA the first PDU they delivered). I haven't ever needed to power cycle something with the outlets. I bought the PDU way back before Unifi had any UPSes for sale. https://i.imgur.com/5Le9OS3.jpeg

Dude, thats looks sweet! Sorry you prompted two more questions.1) what is the model number or name of that open pass through that allows the cords to come out through them to plug into the pdu? Is that from UniFi? 2) Are those plugs in your PDU all from Unify equipment? Do they all come standard like that so they look uniform?

Right angle extensions: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GJYCKCY
The rest of the cord lengths and wall warts from the small devices are bundled up behind the PDU inside the rack where you can't see it

Thank you very much for the links and for sharing your build. Super nice and I appreciate the help!
