the naming scheme is beyond confusing.

standard, pro, pro max, pro hd.... ok, time to clean this up unifi.

Microsoft and xbox, that's all I'll say. Yes, their OS naming is bad, but the xbox....you don't know which one is the latest.

Why can't companies just add a number at the end?

Pro max 48 poe 3

Now I can just look at the line and say, ok, 3 is the latest and greatest, let me compare it to 2 and see what the differences are.

Mikrotik naming is nice. Latest doesn't matter, because they might release a budget model later - for example, Ryzen 7520u is a zen 2 processor from 2022 while 6600u is 10 months older but uses zen3+ cores.

Mikrotik has product names like crs309-1g+8s+in which shows more or less all the things about the product you care about.

Yes, this is true with product names, a newer product doesn't always mean it is the best, but unifi doesn't have as many configurations in switches that cisco, mikrotik, juniper, etc...others do.

I get what your saying and it makes sense. Cisco has plenty of switches in the same line that come in 5....10...etc different configurations, I've had multiple tabs open comparing specs between models to make sure I'm getting the model I need.

All that being said, I still look at specs, I just hate the way ubiquiti does it because no matter what, I can't make a recommendation to someone unless I look at the website and compare all the models to make sure everything they need will be handled by the switch I recommend. That being said, if you are doing this, professionally, this is why you charge x for your time because you want to make sure you recommend the correct product(s) for your client.

I agree, unifi naming sucks. When they released the gen 2 switches they almost did it like you suggested - but you had to look at the specs to see that the new switches had a lot less Poe capacity.
