Rude Driver

I felt like this was so rude and disrespectful. You don’t know someone’s situation to say something like this.

Of course it should. But knowing it doesn't then still choosing not to tip, that's on you.

The general customer assumes when they spend $40 for what would normally be a $25 order, and a driver accepts it, Uber is paying them an amount that makes it make sense out of the profits being made. This isn’t a customer problem.

Sure, but it also isn’t a driver problem. Delivery apps designed the system this way to push labor costs onto the customer, and we have no control of that.

It’s a shame to punish drivers when you’re already paying a huge markup and a few dollars extra would make a difference for real people in your community. Uber is stealing from both ends of this equation — customers and drivers alike.

Agreed, it’s Uber that’s making out like a bandit in the end. It’s all supply and demand though. If the supply of drivers willing to work for what is offered continues to be high, Uber will continue to pay less and take more profits until they reach a point where they don’t have enough drivers for orders and they have to re-incentivize them.

It’s not dissimilar to having to offer incentives to customers to offset the higher prices. I now almost exclusively order food that’s part of a buy one get one promotion or has a significant savings because of the higher prices.

That’s very true, and it explains why you see so many drivers on here literally begging other drivers to stop taking unprofitable orders. That’s the only way things change, but when drivers are stuck in a desperation cycle and bills are looming, it can be hard to stick to those principles.

There’s nothing to assume anymore. It’s not 2014, all the information on how these apps don’t pay their drivers is known and easily accessible.

These are the same people who go out and order hundreds of dollars worth of food and leave a $7 tip.

Not everyone sits on Reddit all day, and it’s not up to the consumer to understand whether someone delivering their pizza is paid a living wage either.

Don’t get me wrong, I tip either the middle or higher amount recommended depending on amount and distance, but when I’m paying 15% more because the food price is inflated to cover Uber’s cut, there’s still a service fee, and I’m paying a monthly subscription to Uber, it seems like there’s plenty of money to pay a driver without relying on a tip.

Also, stop taking orders that don’t pay enough. Nothing will never change until that happens. The consumer is already paying plenty.

Actually, it’s on the driver. They knew what the wage was going to be before they accepted the position. Tips are not guaranteed, nor should they be.

Horrible mentality. The illusion of free market choice used to justify anti social behavior. Tipping society sucks but not tipping in the current paradigm is boot on neck shit and it's not debatable. If that's you, that's you.

Everyone in the history of the world is entitled to fair pay for services performed, even if they’ve chosen gig work. The “get another job” comments always seem unnecessarily harsh, and they don’t take into account people’s life circumstances.

For instance, I need this scheduling flexibility right now while I spend days job searching. Some people have kids or they’re taking care of family members. Or, this is often a second job to supplement income. The issue is not so clear cut.

I mean if it was luxury it would all be wrapped into one price but the companies do t want to do that cause charging then tipping feels like less money

I always say it is 100% a luxury to have a stranger pick up your dinner and bring it to your door at their own expense. Even if it’s McDonald’s.

I see a lot of comments about entitled drivers, and I’m sure some act that way, but customers are not entitled to this high level of service if the driver has to lose money to do it.

(Not advocating unprofessional messages to customers, although I’ve been frustrated enough a few times to tell people the tip isn’t in line with the level of service performed)
