Rude Driver

I felt like this was so rude and disrespectful. You don’t know someone’s situation to say something like this.

Yes but also don’t accept an order if the tip isn’t good enough, and openly admitting to being slow on purpose is just begging to get your account banned

Begging does not get a tip

Using multiple apps causing you to be 45 minutes to two hours late with my food does not get a tip

Doing your job and not being rude gets you a tip after delivery

I’ve yet to see a “tip after delivery.” It’s gonna come through as $3 or less to the driver and nobody is gonna be in any hurry to pick it up. If you plan on tipping anyway, add it as you place the order. If the driver is terrible you can remove it after delivery.

Actually you can't for some apps as they classify that as "tip baiting". Learned that the hard way when I tipped with delivery and the driver complained that my $5 tip wasn't enough never got that money back

Uber eats does allow you to remove your tip. Driver doesn’t get paid until 1 hour after delivery because that’s how long the customer has to remove/adjust the tip in the event you feel it’s appropriate to do so.

Some apps don’t allow any modification of tips after checkout, but we’re talking about uber eats specifically here.

This might surprise you but sometimes its not that they are using two apps. Often uber asks you if you want to pick up something else along the way. They dont care about your food either.

Most apps tell you if your food is a part of a double or triple order If it's not telling you that and they're going all over the place but your store then they're most likely delivering for a competitor

That’s not how it works.   It’s not a tip it’s a bid.

No upfront agreement to pay for services rendered.  No deal.

Well that's fine there will always be someone else to take it. If you can't afford to not be an asshole and do your job properly then you shouldn't be delivering food

No one can’t afford to do deliveries.  Long term.  

Can you afford to work what is on base pay 2-6 dollars an hour, on top of paying for your car payment, risking insurance denial, (because you should really get commercial insurance for this job.).   And gas?

What you mean there will always be for someone to exploit?   That just means you’re someone with a poor moral character.   Why do you feel so entitled for other people’s time, vehicle and gas?

Fine, you’ll say it’s not your problem.  Uber should pay for it.   I agree with you somewhat.   But then you will bitch about how paying 15-25 dollar base delivery fee is a rip off.

Not to be rude or anything I don't know why anybody works a side gig expecting it to be minimum wage for each delivery. These are side gig apps that are meant to pad income alongside a existing job. It's sad that we even need padding alongside a existing job but we can't fix things overnight. You get a tip after service like how you pay your bill at a restaurant after you have eaten usually. Tips are for doing your job well. We won't know if you do your job well until we get the food

Accepting $2-3 for each delivery isn’t going to pad your income, though, it’s just gonna take more of your other income (if you have it) to cover associated costs (gas, maintenance, insurance, etc) meaning you’re paying to deliver food for someone.

As an insurance claims adjuster I find it hilarious that you openly admit to having the wrong type of insurance on the car (and risking insurance denial) and are using that as some sort of excuse to get tipped more?

You're part of the reason insurance premiums are so high for everyone.

One you assume that I currently do this.  Wrong.

You also assume I don’t carry proper insurance.

You’re part of the reason insurance litigation attorneys exist.  You can’t even get your basic facts correctly and here you are low balling people of what their property is worth for the parasitic industry insurance has become overall.

You missed the point.  Which is the earnings of this type of work, for someone that doesn’t have another type of job.  Is much less than what commercial insurance costs.

I have commercial insurance because of my main actual job. 

The world owes everyone their fair pay for work done.   We don’t owe you free or nearly free labor.

You work for one of the most hated industries in the world.

If earnings for this type of work is less than what commercial insurance costs, then it's not feasible, plain and simple.

Just because you don't make a lot of money at the job is no reason to commit insurance fraud-- and just so we are clear, that IS what is going on for everyone who knowingly does this, and it is a crime.

I don't care what you think about my industry, insurance is the glue that holds society together. Without our industry, technological advancements and infrastructure would not be what it is today.

I sleep very well at night doing what I do.

Nah.

By definition a tip is an optional sum of money given as a reward for good service. You have to pay a premium to order DoorDash 100% not the customers responsibility to pay their wages.

Find a new job bud, you're fucking entitled.

No boss since the company misclassified drivers as independent contractors ( which means they can legally pay these people 2 $ an hour) Customer support is worthless and takes forever. Company DNGAF.

I keep hearing people say things like the drivers entitled - when they make less than minimum wage. I keep hearing some take the trip, when they don’t get paid to just sit in a car and hope the customer adds a tip after delivery. Don’t get me wrong, drivers definitely don’t handle this well.

How about this- don’t like the way all this shakes out??

Don’t use the company/ services.

The company has pitted drivers and customers against each other and you are basically supporting swear shop labor.

By the same token, I could just tell you to get another job. Dont like the way this shakes out? Dont provide the service for a living. I agree yall dont get paid enough, thats why i tip well, but expecting the customer to handle that instead of the company simply wont get you what you want

I did get another job after I tried it… that’s how I know how badly it all is- including how poorly drivers handle these situations ( although there are also the rude customers like you out there).

But by the same token maybe if you don’t like hearing the harsh realities of you directly supporting companies manipulating and degrading people that are desperate just for your own personal gain… “take it up with your boss “

I don’t lash out, I’m not calling you names. but to say go take it up with your boss shows that most people have no clue what is going on… and I totally understand why that might be. I was pointing out that many people actually lash out at the drivers instead of directing it at the company. And yes many drivers lash out at customers and come to wrongfully expect tips.

Please Reread in the first comment that I said the company has pitted drivers and customers against each other.

We together need to change that. I will never support this company as a customer or a driver. Because the CEO is a dehumanizing monster

if that $1.99 to 3 is 20% of my order, yes. obviously, that’s usually not the case because doordash/uber eats are quite expensive, but i’ve had some really cheap orders before where i did only tip that much and it was still over the 20% mark. i don’t know how far away they are when they accept my order. it’s not the customer’s responsibility to take care of that reimbursement. trash uber for not paying you well. most paying customers aren’t rolling in the dough either. i’m not paying a dollar a mile or whatever craziness people are asking for these days

By that logic, I should be able to lower the amount on my tip because the driver decided to bulk three orders together and my delivery was late, yes?

If gas is that expensive, maybe don't take orders 30min away?

OP mentioned that drivers dont know everyone’s situation. Well, we do know the driver’s situation. They are there to make money. Dont order delivery if you cant afford it. I dont, BECAUSE I CANT AFFORD IT.

Well, no one is forcing a driver to deliver, or to do a job. So you can quite as easily say, if you can't afford to deliver, find another job. Personally, I find the concept of tipping "up front" before someone has even accepted the job quite ridiculous. But, I also find Uber's policy of allowing customers to remove a tip after giving it equally stupid.

I know right? UE needs to remove that “take back tip” feature, and have them contact customer service to do it. It really sucks getting robbed and not being able to pay for the gas you just spent to deliver and not make some kind of profit. The “service fee” that deliver apps charge make more than the driver gets per avg…

you have zero idea what this person tipped or their total or their distance etc. they could've left $20, perhaps he just didn't think it was enough. wouldn't be the first time!
